Default Traxxas Stampede Problems!!!

Im kinda new to the whole RC scene, I recently bought my Stampede vxl5 just over a month ago. I fried the first engine out of stupidity by not breaking in the first one properly. so traxxas sent me a replacement one free. (titan 550 12t) so on this new one i did the break in process for two whole battery lifes, no stopping and going in this huge parking lot way less then 1/2 speed. but when i just got finished running around my yard and driveway, this sucker is way too hot. I called my local hobby shop and he said it could maybe be my spur gear? (if thats correct, not my stock pinion gear...) he said it might be tightened too tight. So im not sure what to do, maybe just get a new engine. because ive seen some posts about the titans just not being all that great of motors. thank you soo much!! and all help is greately appreciated.!!!!

Hi, welcome to RCU.

Any time a motor is too hot then reducing the load is the answer. In this case using the lowest gear will best the easiest on the motor.

Traxxas gears them too high making for high speed claims , and that is fine on a smooth wide-open space for speed runs.

Or get a cheap brushless and gear it properly.
Ezrun 60a and a tacon 3200kv is fitting and is less than $75. I think its actually $65!
Dont bother with crap brushed, or brushed in general.

Brushed motors aren't crap, they just require extra maintainence.

I would go for a motor like an S600. It will allow you to use the stock gearing and not burn out the motor, in fact, you could probably gear up!
