Default RE: 1st RCUniverse Electric Speed Challenge

I just took another vid tonight but the improvment isn't worth taking the time to upload it. I seem to have hit a wall in the top speed catagory. this latest run was 47.5mph which is my best so far on just 2s but I'm not going to post another vid until I break the 50+ mark.

I increased my gearing some to get more top end and now it is geared for 83.7 according to my speed calculator but for some reason I can seem to get past 47 mph. My pinion spur mesh was a bit tight since I had the most number of teeth that would allow the motor to bolt in so I think I may drop a couple teeth on the pinion and see what I get with it tomarrow. I think I might go thru the truck also to see if there is any excesive drag on the drivetrain anywhere.

My previous best run of 47.2 MPH was done with a mamba micro pro ESC, Castle Creations Limited Edition CM26 6800Kv Motor, 7.4v 30c SkyLipo battery, 60T spur gear and a 25T pinion which was also a very tight fit. this last run was with a 55T spur and 31T pinion. I will drop down to a 28T pinion tomarrow. watch out!! [8D]

Just wondering why can we use a hot wheels radar gun, google how accurate they are and how they work....
No kidding
Unless it was endorsed for use in some official capacity, I would not accept that it was accurate even if a million internet nobodies said so, sorry. Tell you what...if you can get a vid showing that the hot wheels gives exactly the same result as a gps in the same vid, I'll change the rules.

As for the venom speed meter, that is a programmed tachometer, so no problem (as long as it's programmed correctly)

Default RE: 1st RCUniverse Electric Speed Challenge

ask, and u shall receive, Most GPS's have about the same error factor

How accurate is GPS?

Specifications for many GPS receivers indicate their accuracy will be within about 10 to 50 feet (3 to 15 meters), 95% of the time. This assumes the receiver has a clear view of the sky and has finished acquiring satellites.

Many receivers include WAAS capability, which can enhance accuracy in many parts of North America. But if you're moving around or in areas with less than ideal conditions, you'll probably find your receiver isn't using WAAS a good share of the time.

All things considered, you can usually expect to be within about 20 to 30 feet of the mark with most consumer grade receivers.
Allso it depends how many satellites u have locked onto & how many ur device can support, the worst is the gps in smar phones thay have been knowen to be over 1000feet out.... most GPS are 3% out from what ive been reading

Um, the police car read 13, and the hot wheels radar gun read 14...

That's almost a 10% difference.

You're right, but it usually reads low, not high. At least in ThunderbirdJunkie's experience.

The GPS speed thing on his phone was accidentally found to be "close enough" at 75 mph as a cop's radar gun[&:]

I did some looking on the interweb and looked at few new studies and the GPS is more accurate then I thought. + or - 1% and a car speedo can be out 10%

Oddly enough, with bigger-than-stock tires and an uncorrected speedometer in the Jeep, the GPS speedometer in the phone agrees with the Jeep at any speed[&:]

Wouldn't that count as a violation of Rule#6 "car must survive the run"?

Also had a suggestions for you. How about posting the latest "standings" up on the first post of the thread.

It would count as a DSQ if it had happend on the run from which I got 49.4 , it happend after the fact when I was screwing around on a different run.

And I was making a list of the runs just as you posted.
1st: jg2009 - 53.6
2nd: FloridaDude - 49.4
3rd: Yakfish - 42.7 with an unconfirmed 47.6

ok, can I use it???

The gun has 2 settings 1-1 & 1-64, on the 1-1 setting it can be 1mph out but on the 1-64 setting its only 2-3% out only problem is u have to devide the speed by 64.

I know GPS's are good but are u going to allow smartphones??? I wouldent trust a ipod or a iphone3, the iphone4 seems better but its nothing compared to a true gps.

meh im over it anyway, i think this challenge is nearly dead

Just received my new SPC 2s LiPo in the mail today. I am going to try to make a couple of passes running 23/86. My wife has already approved a new motor/esc, so, I am going to see what I can do. Just to liven things up, pic of my AC680 charging my battery for the first time:

OK, use it, as for an iphone, it would be silly to use the gps when you could use the accelerometer. As for finished...what? Hasn't even started yet! Give people time. I just got my Jammin in my hands this morning and have lots of different gearing to try, and a destructively powerful motor (1410)

I can photoshop that Verizon wireless thing too..

You have been deemed UNQUALIFIED for this venue.

Get dirty over 42mprh like this:

Enuf dirt? Still brakes at 42 mph and not kph.

You're a joke, and a bad OWNER of a wannabe company.

Point blank.

Let's really see an ACTUAL VIDEO WITH A SPEED GUN. You started it - so finish it

Heres my latest run, had to buy me an iPod touch just to film it.
http://www.youtube.com/user/Speedfre.../0/wfohX-k8gKY
Weather: 75° running into 5knot winds
ESC: CC Sv2 lowest timing, tweaked throttle curve
Motor: CC 1406 4600kv
Gearing: 25/72
Battery: Gens Ace 4000 2s 25c
Tires: Pro-line Dirt Hawgs ll
everything else is stock, I didn't even had enough room to get it full throttle! You can see that my first pass didn't go to good I was at 3/4 throttle pinned it and you see what happend, the new castle motors have so much torque.
How do I embed a video so it's on this page?
LOL that first run looked like the fastest even tho it was on its roof,
