Default Sidewinder SCT eating up lipos

Well after my real sidewinder gave out, I bought a new sidewinder SCT speed control, it runs the same as my old sidewinder and I have them set the same but since I got the SCT I've gone though 3 lipos, is there a issue with my esc?

It would depend what's going bad with your packs. I doubt it is the esc's fault directly. It just does what it's told.

What batteries are they? What kind of car are you running the motor/speedo in and what gearing/tires?

If they can't support at least 100a chances are pretty good that's what's killing them.

ThunderbirdJunkie's SC10 4x4 with a Castle 1410 chewed up and spit out 3 Turnigy 5000/40c batteries in as many runs. The little 1410 is a powerhouse, but it's also power hungry and will annhilate speed controls and batteries that are not up to the task of feeding it properly, especially if you're running it in a heavy truck like an SC10 4x4, Ten SCTE, Stampede 4x4, etc.

The 1410 is the honey badger of 540 motors.

i dont think 40c batteries should have any trouble handling that 1410- 800-900w max... i can get 1,000 out of some 20c turnigy's....

OP- make sure youre balance charging them, and that your LVC is on.

45c 6000mah Orion saddle packs and a Venom 5000 30c lived just fine.

TBJ, juicy as it is, there ain't NO WAY a 1410 is pulling anywhere NEAR 100A. Not a chance in the world. I don't even think my 2200 in my truggy was pulling that many amps with conservative gearing. I defy you to get a datalog that suggests it pulls more than 40A once spooled up. Startup current, fine, but then you're looking at the burst capability of the battery and ESC, not the continuous rating.

Here's a vid of a Sidewinder SCT (a 40A speed control) getting a good raping on 3S with a 1410 in a Jammin SCRT10, undeniably a heavy truck, running the same 5000mAh Zippy batts I use...

OP's sig suggests he has the 4600 combo (1406), which is even juicier.

The question becomes...what batteries was he using...? To be fair though, I can't see anything over 20C 5000mAh having a problem. In my experience, Zippy (Flightpower) batts are not pushing their luck with their ratings, if anything, they are underrated.

@the OP, we need more info...Which truck? What batteries, what gearing, are we talking about the 4 pole 1406 motor? How old were the batts? What do you mean 'going through' lipos? What was happening to them?
