two new ECX Torments both broke same day
On Saturday me and a friend bought two new ECX Torment's to have some fun with for the weekend. They ran great on a friends Traxxas Nimh pack. Both Torments did great and took a beating. Towards the end of the battery pack the truck started sputtering. Sometimes it would go forward and sometimes it would just spudder. The wheels turned fine. I just asssumed it was a low battery. I just charged my stock battery and it did it right off the bat. My friends is doing the same thing. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Now that's not real helpful. :P C'mon Red, you got more than that!
Do you have a different ESC you could swap in easily to test with?

How did you charge the stock battery? Do you have a voltmeter? Can you check the battery voltage? If I had to guess, I would say that somehow the batteries didn't get charged correctly, especially if it happened on two vehicles...
Tell us about the charger. Also, depending on how long the Torments were sitting around, the batteries probably need to be cycled a few times to start working good.
Can you borrow your friend's traxxas pack again and tell us what happens?
I don't think you are in too bad of shape when things get sorted out.

Red: you could have saved your time !
As for the others: thanks for the replies, I have a an ascend ac/dc peak detection balance charger. I don't have an extra esc to test. It ran fine with the traxxas battery until the end of run time, and do not work right at all with stock battery. I am recharging stock battery to test it again. Thanks again for any help.

Yeah it came with a dynamite 1800 mah 7.2v 6 cell. I would agree that a HPI would have been better, the hobby was low on stock and we were just looking for something to bash around with and make a little project truck out of.

You guys drive in puddles and water? If you guys did, then water may have shorted the ESC's.
Its either the battery or ESC so it shouldn't be difficult to troubleshoot.

When the battery is done peak charging, it should be pretty warm. Feel the battery right after your charger is done and report back. If the battery is warm to the touch then it probably peaked and has a good charge.

I have one but installed a brushless combo right out the box. Just recently I've been hearing that the ESC's burn out from using more than the 7.2 batteries it came with. Using the 8 volt and lipos may be too much.
Not sure about the HPI truck, but my Torment handles better than my 4x4 Slash ( less rollovers on turns).
So far it pulls wheelies, no drivetrain issues s far.
