Nothing wrong with redcat they have improved alot and I would compair quality with losi products only with there redcats newer products. I have redcat twister xb brushless and losi desert truck 1/10 scale I replace more parts on my losi than redcat.  Redcat caldera line is very durable jang from rcuniverse reviwed the redcat twister and gave it good marks check it out.

Well everyone it has been a while but I traded my Zd truggy roller for a thunder tiger Eb4 g3. I also have aquired a almost new slash 4x4 that i traded an Hpi e-savage for on the RCU market. I plan to put a hobby wing 150am esc in it with either the castle 2650kv motor (for use on 4s), or the Tacon 2000kv for use on 5s. what are your thoughts?

I have never understood why people put 1/8th electrics in 1/10th SCs. A good 550 on 3S will run the slash at 60mph all day without killing it. A 2000kv 1/8th motor will need bigger, more expensive and heavier batteries, as well as oversized pinions. It would of course do 60mph all day as well, but will also eat the driveline twice as fast, especially with initial acceleration torque, that motor would throw that little truck around like a hat in a hurricane. Buy LOTS of slippers if you insist on doing it.

Those electronics were for my Eb4 G3 1/8 buggy (I forgot to specify) . but I agree that 1/8 electronics are overkill in SC trucks.

Because everyone likes to try it at least once. I know I tried it in my 4wd Slash with a MMM2350 setup and it would wheelie at half throttle..

I'd get 3S lipo, and the Traxxas Velenion VXL 3S 3500kv Brushless Waterproof system

The slash has a Vxl 3s system and thats plenty. The electronics specified are for the thunder tiger EB4 g3 1/8 buggy no way i'm dropping the vxl in that. that sytem runs way too hot in just about anything it would explode in an 1/8 buggy.

What Kv rating would best suit the needs of this hefty buggy? i'm new to 1/8 stuff. i want cool temps and a top end around the 60mph range. I'm also going to race at club level with it and see if I like the class. I know the buggy has a 50t spur and I know the largest pinion you can fit with thie stock motor mount is a 20t. so 2000kv on 5s with a 17t pinion? Temps and acceleration are more important to me than topspeed. Advice appreciated.

2000kv is good. Might want to start with an 18T pinion and get a few more pinions with different numbers of teeth.

Ok so 18t is a no go. The buggy has mod 1 pinion and spur gears, and 15t is the largest pinion you can fit with the stock spur. the spur is a 50t, however I can swap it out with an rc8 spur which come in 46 and 48t variants. With 15 to 50t the top speed on 6s is right at 60 mph. The 2000kv motor should sping that without a sweat right?

Yep 2000kv motors have a lot of torque. I'm putting a 2150kv in my buggy. cause i want to do some wicked speed runs

BTW why does your buggy body look like that?

Its made of Textured ABS, idk why, its seems quite brittle but I like the flat black color that won't ever look scratched... its the previous owners body. So far i like the buggy. much more sturdy than the Zd racing truggy. So far i've spent $90 ona roller, traded that roller forthe EB4 with servo and radio/recieverwith two full sets of good wheels and tires on the RCU market.$90for a reasonably high quality buggy with legendary durability. I like.

Again I'm not crazy enough (or wealthy enough spare parts wise) to try that in my slash 4x4! Those electronics are for my eb4 g3 1/8 buggy. Foxy's description is rather accurate! Might try it on 3s though one day...

I'm prolly gonna get hated on but oh well lol .. Last time I had $400 to drop on a rc I ended up with a brand new 1/5 king motor baja clone for just under $400 shipped . Probably the best $400 I've spent in rc....

No one is going to hate on you and if you know its a good buy by experience then you have a fair suggestion. Not that I know anything about 5 scales

If I had $400 to drop on RC again it would be a Thunder Tiger EB4 G3, it similar to my MT4 (which I absolutely love) and is fast, durable, good handling and relatively cheap. Parts are easy to find too (for me at least)

Yeah no one is going to hate on you finding a deal on an off brand. some no name companies make decent stuff. Well one more day gentlemen i'm so siked about this buggy. I just hope its reasonably controlable. What diff oils do ya'll think would make a good bash setup for all around street grass and dirt? yes i'm aware there is no real good answer other than figure it out yourself but somone give me a starting point because theses diffs require some serious wrenching to get open. i'd prefer not to have to do it more than I need too. Thanks

I agree the only thing savagable in a slash is the waterproof servo and maybe the tires. The VXL is junk...they fall apart over time.
