Default 4 pole bl motors

Hi there

Does any know how high you can gear up a 4 pole motor i have a Leopard 3660 4650kv 4 pole motor and a 80a xerun esc on 3s in a hyper 10 tt gear set up at the moment 21/42. The problem is that the esc is overheating on the first battery not even 10mins before over heat cut off kicks in. the motor temp is in 58c with fan and 45c with fan the esc get to 74cruning no not to deep grass.
I thought that 4 pole motor can be geared higher, my aim is to get up to around 50mph on grass and hopefully get up to 60mph on the road on 3s could some one help.

p.s will post a pick of the hyper 10 tt set up if possible

thanks filly

hot motor + cool esc & batts = undergeared

cool motor + hot esc & batts = overgeared

warm everything = just right

hot everything = way overgeared

No ph.

Filly, your motor is what it is, your ESC is what it is. Regardless of your gearing expectations, your ESC is telling you it can't give any more. You should save some cash for one of the really good motor/esc combos if you want really good performance, the leopard motors and ezrun ESCs are ok, but there are better. Also, for that kind of speed you will want 3s, which means you need to go down in kv.

Get yourself one of these...it's a little expensive, but omg what a combo. This should give you 60mph on the tarmac on 3s without breaking a sweat...

+1 on this kit. At least as much torque as a 5.5 Novak 550 and 800 watts peak. Nice motor.

thanks you everyones reples, i read somewhere that the sct esc is not that good and overheat quickly. so what kind of what size pinion should I use if i get the 1410 motor i have the Castle 4600kv 4 pole and a Ezrun 2700kv 4pole and Reedy 4000kv 4pole. the rtr hyper 10 tt comes with a 3900kv motor and that motor is not all that but on youtube vids people dont seem to have overheating problems. this is with a 2 pole cheap motor geared fairly low but 4 pole motors are ment to be strong or i am wrong. when i was using my ezrun 2700kv motor i am geared at 27/42 on 3s the motor and esc can handle 4s and it was fine for months running 5-6 3s one after the other with no probs esc and motor did not break a sweat until i some how blow the esc. replaced with the same esc but problem after problem. if my dog bones a little bent will that cause esc to heat up.

thanks filly

i suggest use xerun 150a esc on this motor, this is suitable for the high current motor.

I missed this reply, sorry.

Bottom line, yes, bent dogbones are putting extra strain on the drivetrain, whether its enough to make the difference that burns an ESC is debatable, but I would say its definitely possible if it was on the edge before the dogbones bent.

I haven't heard of any problems with the SCT ESC even on 3s as long as a decent fan is fitted. With appropriate gearing of course. I don't really understand why your current setup is giving you problems tbh, it sounds like it should be capable of what you are asking of it with no problem. In any case, if you want a bulletproof setup get the MMP combo with the castle 1410 and you'll have no worries ever. It's totally rock solid, that ESC is capable of chucking a Savage around on 4S, and the motor has way more power than your Hyper 10 needs.

By the way, I would seriously get one of those if I didn't have the Jammin SC, how is it? You liking it when it is working?

That motor on 3s geared that high should be able to hit 60 plus, you are way over geared and you will have nothing but heat issues with that setup.

Try a 14 or 15 tooth pinion that will get you closer to your target speed.

Well spotted, I missed this. Indeed, 27/42 is very very high, you should expect heat issues.
