Default Tamiya XV-01

Hey guys what do u think of this.... Looks like 1/10 rally cars and trucks are back

Description:

This is a PRO-spec version of the R/C 4WD XV-01 chassis. "XV" stands for "Crossover Vehicle". As the name implies this vehicle is intended to serve as a common all-terrain platform which can be used for rally cars, on-road cars, and pick-up trucks. It is equipped with covers to protect the drivetrain and R/C units from dirt and debris and its suspension provides a ground clearance of over 10mm. The motor is mounted at the front and power is delivered via a drive belt to the front/rear gearboxes, which are equipped with gear differential units. The "PRO" spec kit comes with plenty of Option Parts as standard equipment.
Features:

Front-mounted motor is housed in a gearbox which has been designed for ease of maintenance. Separately available Slipper Clutch Set (Item 54378)
Radio gear components are protected by covers that are secured by screws. The ESC space features a detachable cover which incorporates ducts for heat dissipation. Wheel well liners help deflect dirt and debris.
A hatch on the underside of the XV-01 chassis enables quick access to the battery.
Holes in the chassis bottom help remove any debris which may block steering movement during off-road use.
Reversible-type rear suspension ensures plenty of suspension stroke for off-road driving. The separate suspension mount also makes it easy to change settings such as Toe Angle.

I think it looks really cool, been seeing bits about it on tamiyablog for a little bit now. Nice to see some "real" pics and more details.

The belt drive is interesting - I know it's more efficient, but was kind of hoping for a shaft drive. I like the front motor layout, very different.

It's good to see them releasing a new chassis. This one looks like a winner.

same way I felt when I looked at it

for offroad even though its enclosed we all know a pebble will somehow work its way in, and damage that belt

Nah, will be fine from pebbles. It's just the fine dirt I'm worried about, getting to the diffs.

Then again, I'm thinking of ball diffs like the DB01 has (where the dirt gets in with the grease there). This car has gear diffs, so maybe there's nothing much to worry about. I've gotten plenty of dirt in my DB01 belts, and the belt/pulley were always fine - is the ball diffs that get messy. Hopefully this rally car's gear diffs are protected from that.

It should drift/power slide with out the understeer of the DF03r and more durable than the TA01/02 cars.... Might be the best 1:10 rally chassis yet

I like the fenders...just wish they were more "full"

Wonder if a 2s hardcase can fit in that battery tray.

Inclosed batt/radio trays are a pain sometimes...but make alot of sence for a rally car.

I'm sure a 2s lipo would easly fit... How cool is the way the battery drops out from the bottom. I hate removing a body just to get a battery out

Got one issue with that from my experiences with old off-road toy grade RC's the battery tray was always the 1st thing to break from the force of the battery pressing on the few pieces of plastic holding the battery in from landings. Can't even remember how many RC's I had to wrap duct tape around the bottom to hold the batteries in
I much prefer just popping the body off in comparison to having a solid place to put the battery

Those must be some pretty harsh landings.[X(] The only car I have with bottom loading battery is my df03ra, which has had no problems with the loading door. One thing you have to remember is that toy RC's are often made of thin or brittle plastic. Tamiya tends to use very durable plastics in their cars.

I will be purchasing the mud flaps for my DF03Ra... however I also know that dirt WILL eventually work its way into EVERYTHING. And rebuilding that - especially with the belt drive. I like it, but I don't think I'll buy it.

That thing is soooo cool. Especially with those fenders. I wonder if you could make it into some kinda scaler? One that is based on something with IRS. Looks like something I might take a closer look at.

That's a nice chassis. Im sure it handles like a true to scale rally car. I want one of these.

It was listed as a platform I belive for "scale on-road cars, rally cars, and trucks" or something along those lines.
If you mean as a scale crawler, I don't think the belt drive would be very effective at all for crawling torque.

With a brand new chassis? Yeah right. You're just shell shocked from re-releases, Shark.

Look to other new Tamiya chassis for precedent: DB01. DF03. DF02. TT01.

Yeah, parts will be fine.
