Default EZRun esc on 3S lipo?

Has anyone been able to successfully run the ezrun 60A esc with 3s lipo even with the fan mod/upgrade and gearing down? I've heard people are still having issues with the thermal shut down and overheat issues. I have that setup and want to plug in my 3s so just wondering. Thanks.

I haven't heard to much about the 60a esc having issues with 3s. What motor you running? Keep the motor within the limits and you should be ok.

http://site.hobbypartz.com/hobbywing/HW-13-V2.pdf

according to the manual: no less than 8.5t (4000kv) for 3s. Motor might heat up, alot of rpms, but the esc should be ok. The 380 rotor 9t(4300kv) ezrun motor would be ok too.

depends what in the world you are running it is, and how its geared. Not knowing those 2 things its impossible to say.
and yes you need to re-wire the fan to the BEC to run 3S or the fan will blow out. I've ran my 35A setup on 3S with no issues.

Will be running the 6000kv motor. Heard this motor might be too much for the esc to handle and espcially with being only 60A. The gear ratio I have is 15T/86

what motor is it? most that high KV cant even handle 3s.

If you want extreme speed (over 75mph) then you gotta spend more money on a better esc.

But for most any 1/10 scale model the ezrun 60a plus a good 3500ish kv motor on 3s will get you 60+mph without over heating.

Same here, even on a high kv motor (3900kv)

I might downgrade the motor than, looking at a tacon 8.5t motor to mate with the ezrun 60A on 3s lipo, sounds good anyone?

again...what model? 2wd or 4wd? onroad or offroad? those things make a difference in what motor/esc and gearing you should use.

Traxxas rustler 2wd, onroad and alittle offroading. Planning to use the 8.5t tacon moto with the 60A ezrun esc. 17/86 or maybe 15/86

for a rustler and offroad driving...id stick with a sub 4000kv motor. 3500-3900kv.

for one thing, doing so will let you use the gearing chart traxxas has for maxx gearing, since your motor will be close to the stock 3500kv vxl motor.

Second, offroading requires more torque.

If you were gonna do purely onroad, then higher would be fine.

Still, a 3500kv motor on 3s lipo with the highest gearing you can safely run will get you 75ish MPH...which is pretty dang fast.

A stock rustler vxl with a 3s lipo and 25/86 gearing can be run on/off road without overheating and is crazy fast.
