900Kv / 800Kv Motors in a 1/10 SCT?
Ok, so basically Ihave someone who is wanting to trade me 2 each 800 Kv motors and 1 each 900 Kv Motor. They are both Turnigy motors:
800Kv - http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=17705
900Kv - http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=17706
I am trying to figure out if Ican put these in a 1/10 SCT. Iknow that Ihave searched the forums and found some interesting things on the Kv rating. I have also looked around and found that these are mostly used for boats and planes, but didn't know if they would be too low Kv for a 1/10 SCT.Iwas looking at these and thought that perhaps with the correct gearing, possibly they could be used. I think that the lower the Kv rating, the more low end torque, and the less power consumption. But does that mean that the speed will suffer? Iam still a noob when it comes to RC cars, but am trying to learn as much as I can (basically getting an extreme crash course from the forums!) Trying to talk to my LHS, but I think the guy is getting irritated with me because Icome in and ask a thousand questions 3 or 4 times, but haven't bought anything yet LOL. Anyway, if someone has some info for me, I would appreciate it!

First things first, don't be bothered to ask your LHS owner for help. They are always happy to help a newbie. They don't mind how many questions you ask. Second, the lowest you'd want to fit in an SCT is about 2500. the motor you specified wouldn't even have enough power to turn the wheels with gearing. The 800-900s look like they're for boats. Third, A substitute for the motor would be a Tacon. This one will give you plenty of power. And a suitable ESC would be a HobbyWing one.

Thanks for the info. I didn't think that either of those two motors would be any good in an SCT, but I thought it may not be a bad idea to ask someone who knows. I have spent most of my morning looking at gearing and motor calculators. Again, I have searched most of the forums that I can find on the whole Kv rating and such, but it's making my head spin! It's almost like info overload!
Are the Leopard ESC / Motor combos on there any good? Ineed to do more research on ESCs so I can figure those out too... Good lord Iam getting a headache!
BTW, Iam looking at probably getting a Team Associated SC10 if that helps for any more info. Ilooked at the Traxxas Slash 2WD and the 4x4, but they are NOTCHEAP!

Also another thing that confuses me is the 550 / 540 bit. I am not sure exactly if that is a model number, the size, or what. I found that here:

you would have to run one of those motors on 8S-9S to get anywhere near the speed a 3500 on 2S would get
I think there is only one ESC rated for that, and if I remember irght its for 1/5th scale RC's and costs a few hundred for the ESC alone.

longer motors generally run cooler, and have a bit more torque.

Ok, so I looked at the Motor you recommended, collector, but the ESC link went to another motor. I did happen to find this as well while searching:

I didn't know if this would be something that would be a viable brushless replacement. Also I have been reading that heat is usually an issue with most brushless motors, should I invest in a good heat sink / fan combo, or should a heat sink alone be good enough?

heat is only an issue if you overgear. too many people put huge gears in the truck so it wheelies and goes 60mph and wonder why the smoke comes out. that motor is very good- it has the same torque as a novak 550, but since its a 540 size you have to pay attention to your gearing. IMO that speed control is a plastic casing full of used pinball machine parts- get a mamba max pro, the 1410, and be done.

Depends what your gears are and in what car? If you mean the stock gears of your average SCT, no, you should not need to change them, you can drop this motor straight in and usually, the gearing will be conservative (cool running). If heat becomes a problem, just gear down a little.

I am looking at the Team Associated SC10, which I believe comes with an 87 tooth gear and 20 tooth pinion. Not 100% on that though
