RE: batttry question
You'll be just fine with 5 amps. Those packs can take a lot more than 5 amps. Saw your PM , maybe the Onyx 230 or 235 would be even faster? I think they are 7 and 8 amps (on DC power)

RE: batttry question
Cos they don't want people to fast charge them and warranty them if a cell isn't very good and suffers, despite the fact that these kind of cells should take a 10A charge comfortably. It's like almost all 'manufacturer recommendations', overkill. Don't get me wrong, unless you have experience and are sure of what you are doing, you should always follow the recommendations, however, as you spend more and more time around this stuff, you learn what is actually true and what is just wasting your time. As the others have said, you will be absolutely fine charging it at 5A.
Good batteries have no such guidelines on them, people know what to charge them at.

RE: batttry question
Charging a battery above the recommended charge current will reduce its cycle life. For example, if a battery is rated for 4 amps charging current for 500 charging cycles, You may only get 450 or 400 charge cycles if you charge it at 5 amps.

RE: batttry question
If people cared about that, they would charge at 1miliamp. There is a happy medium, and its way above 5A for most nimh packs. I don't think I've ever charged a single battery 100 times in all my years in the hobby, so its kind of moot.
