Default Help, car won't run on the surface

New to R/C, so forgive my inexperience.

We have a 1/10 truggy, brushless. The first problem we had was the battery charger, which seemed not to be charging the battery. Took the battery to a local model shop, which specialised in planes, but were helpful to check the battery status. The two cell lipo was 7% and 30%. Obviously, not good, and a new charger seemed to solve the issue for a day.

The new problem now is the car runs when held in the hand, and off the surface, but when placed on the surface does not want to move. The motor can still be heard and the prop shaft seems to be turning, but not moving the front wheels.

We have taken the front end off to check for any obvious gear damage, but cannot see anything obvious. Also checked the rear gearing, and nothing obvious.

The last time it worked, it did fly off a skate ramp and land rather heavily.....

could it be the battery is damaged but the previous charging problem? The charger says it is full but new to,this and wondered if the low charge previously as done damage? Or is it another problem, damage?

uhh 7%, and 30%? those 2 numbers actually mean nothing without reference. 30% of the useable power used? or 30% of the voltage based on the cells capacity (at which point I'd junk it if this was the case)
you would need the voltage levels which are not percentages as anything under 3V a cell I wouldn't bother trying to recharge.
What RC is this as it almost sounds like you have a loose slipper, but truggies shouldn't have a slipper as they use center diffs**

**and before anyone chimes in I know there is an aftermarket slipperential that costs an arm and a leg

From your description it sounds like you stripped the spur gear or did some other damage to the drive train.

I would look into the Spur Gear as others have said. It is possible if the wheels were still spinning full throttle when you hit the ground it could have done other damage to the drive train along with stripping the Spur Gear. Generally spining both rear tires at the same time should spin both front tires without grinding soundsif the drive train is still in good shape.

The Spur Gear is the large gear that the Motor's pinionengages to move the drive train.

A fully charged LiPo 2s battery pack will be at around 4.2 Volts per cell. If the ESC is LiPo battery pack compatible most will cut off the Motor around 3.2 Volts per cell. If the ESC is not LiPo battery compatible it is best to check the battery voltage after about 15 minutes of runtime. LiPo Battery packs can be damaged if they drop below 3.0 Volts per cell.

Your battery charger should have a balance plug built into it to properly charge LiPo batteries. The LiPoBattery Chargers willbalance the cells to the same voltage before charging them.

One thing you might look into for LiPo battery packs is a battery balancer this toolwill tell you how many volts per cell your battery pack has than also balance the cells to the same voltage before charging. Since I generally charge 4 battery packs I balance the cells before putting them on my battery charger to save time.

While I do not live in the UK here is one from the USA. The may carry other brands over seas.

we have to know the model to help you best....

but a stripped spur gear
loose slipper clutch
loose drive cup (slug screw backed out)
stripped wheel hex
missing drive pin
Loose slug screw on the pinion gear
busted shoes on the clutch

all of those are possible causes of lose of drive when the model is on the ground.
