Default Would a bad motor burn an ESC?

I have a Novac Havoc esc and a 17.5 motor in my Losi 22. I have been running both of these ESC's for a few years with no problems. I ran the car for a few days the other day and the ESC stopped working. I put another ESC in it and it worked just fine for a few days then the ESC caught fire. The hell is going on here? I am down two cars now cause of this. (I pulled the ESC out of my T4.1 so I could race my buggy) I'm def not running this motor anymore. But I don't have a lot of money to spend to get them back up and running. So if I don't have to buy a motor, I won't.

I personally wouldn't trust the motor if 2 ESC's died with it. It might have a coil exposed, and maybe something is in it(or the rotor) that touched the exposed portion, and shorted it out.
