Working on my first kit, having trouble picking out motor/esc
Hey guys, I've been racing for a little while. I started with an RTR, then moved to a kit racer that I bought completed from a friend. Now I've decided to make a 2dw 1/10 buggy. I've decided to probably go for the B5M. I'm having trouble choosing a motor and esc. There are so many options out there and I really don't know how to select one. Any advice or information? Thanks!

The biggest deciding factor would be which class you plan to race in. That can dictate which motor you need to use. Otherwise, if you're not concerned with fitting into a racing class then as you've learned there are endless possibilities. My advice is stick with a system that matches the performance of the chassis. Meaning, don't both with sticking a Traxxas Velineon combo or a Castle Sidewinder non-sensored system in it. Stick with a sensored racing system. I own a RC10B4 and an old RC10 Graphite. Both are rear motor but the B4 could basically handle motors up to around 4000KV before the power/weight ratio started to get out of hand. You can go faster than that but the car becomes more difficult to drive because these things are realatively light. I might suggest nothing faster than a 8.5T motor at the high end with a 10.5-13.5T being the "sweet spot." Even a 17.5T stock motor can be geared taller for more speed.
In regards to the brand, pick what fits your wallet. Though, for premium brands, I've used Tekin in the past and TrakPower currently. The latter being the smoothest system I've ever driven. Everyone has an opinion but, I'll say that you can expect to spend between $100-$200 for most combos.
