Default Problem with stampede xl5 brushless conversion

Hi guys, Im new to the RC world and I am sure you can help me here. I just installed a Castle 4600kv motor and esc combo onto my stampede 4x4. The problem is the truck has no low end power. I adjusted the settings on the esc w/ my transmitter and turned off acceleration limiting and I was careful about getting the gear mesh right, but it has no punch. Shouldnt it be doing wheelies? It takes off slow but with a high pitched whine. I havent ran it outside to see what top speed is like, but even in my living room it should be doing back flips right?

Are you using a LiPO or NiMH? If you are using NiMH, it will not work with the ESC and make the vehicle slow. This LiPO is a suitable replacement.

Collector is right about NiMh vs Lipo, NiMh will be slower compared to Lipo. NiMh also requires that the LVC (Low Voltage Cutoff) on the esc be disabled and I'm 99% it's enabled by default on all Castle esc's.

But your battery choice won't produce a high pitched whine. The high pitched whine you're hearing is likely the slipper clutch slipping due to the increase in power. You just need to tighten it up by turning the nut in the center of the spur gear clockwise. Turn it in 1/4 turn increments until it stops whining and the truck takes off. Alternatively you can look up the slipper clutch adjustment procedure in the manual (available online at Traxxas.com) which usually involves tightening the nut until snug then backing it off 1/4 turn.

Edit: While your checking things, check to make sure the grub screw on the pinion is tight and located on the little flat spot of the motor shaft as well.

NiMh with a brushless system is like a downgrade from a NiMh brushed system. You need a 2S lipo to make it an upgrade.

Surprised no one mentioned that is not a good motor to use with the stampede 4X4
You should have bought a 3300kv or so motor
anything over 4000kv is meant more for on-road in lighter vehicles.
