Tamiya for racing?
Hello
It seems everyone out at the local track is racing either team associated or losi buggies. I'd get one, but being a novice at racing, I'd like to get something cheaper for the stock class. I was wondering if Tamiya's buggies would keep up with them?

Depends on which. The cheap buggies like Fighter Buggy and Hornet would not. The more expensive TRF ones would, however.
This buggy is the cheapest one that has a chance of keeping up with the good guys;

And you'll need a powerplant for that sucker. I suggest an Atomik combo. I assume your stock class races 17.5 motors, right? If so, here is an awesome combo for real cheap.

Yes, I know that. I'm currently only running a sc10 2wd in the novice class, which is open to anything. I just started racing, friday was my first day at the race track (my buddy built a practice track for himself, and I helped so he lets me run there, but it's a summer/fall track only.
I'm just looking to get into buggy as I like the looks of them. My buddy runs 1/8 scale buggy, which once I get my short course down, and not having minor break downs forcing me out of the race, I want to go 1/10 scale, then up to 1/8th. I have an old gold pan that if I knew where to get parts, I could probably get that running for the stock class. It for sure needs new tires, they are so dry rotted

A rc10 gold pan is severely outdated and outclassed in today's buggy classes. Plus depending on which edition gold pan and how it's equipped, you might cause a few heart attacks if you put one on the track! Gold pans have been coming out of everyone's closets the last few years but they can still be worth a few bucks if they're the right one and in the right condition so something to look into if you're not attached to it.

Blinky just means.... the ESC blinks. Thats all, from what I understand, lol.
They will NOT let you fun a brushed system in that class, ever. Just buy a 17.5 motor and ESC.

Blinky is actually a mode on the esc. When in blinky mode the esc is not advancing timing and is staying in sensored operation, no hybrid sensored/sensorless, no boost or any other tweaks. The esc blinks when in blinky mode so that tech inspectors can visually see the mode it's in without having to go through the settings of the esc. Blinky mode is usually reserved for stock and/or spec classes like 17.5 class.
Edit: I should say blinky is a mode on some esc's, not all esc's have it. Some are actually blinky mode only as well like Hobbywing's Just Stock line.

Oh, gotcha. Thanks Maj!
And you can't by just knowing the KV rating. If you're on a small budget, I'd go with a Speed Passion 17.5 motor.
