Let me make a public announcement saying I'm sorry, to my fellow co-workers, as I will need a "feeling good mental health day" absence from work when the kit(s) arrive(s) at my door.

It comes with both the original chain drive on optional belt drive. That's the option I was hoping for, and almost justifies the hefty price that comes with the kit.

Not sure what I am getting into but I may get my hands on a Original Optima - just talked to a friend that says he has one in his garage all boxed up for years. Will keep all posted if he gives it to me to rebuild for him.
Cheers

frog racer, nice name. Are you, by chance, an own of one (Tamiya Frog)?
An Optima "barn find" at your friends place...awesome! I wish I could say the same. From what I remember about my Optima...It was leaving my sight, and being thrown into a dumpster. I had no interest in searching for parts for it. This was about the same the great www came about, but I didn't have dial-up service yet . A box full of spare parts, that I found years later ... was sold on eBay for good money.
Pre-orders are now being taken for the Optima. The funny thing is, I thought for sure Kyosho was gonna wait closer til Christmas to do their re-releasing. I'm dumping a lot of my time, effort, and $$$ into my 1/8 buggy at the moment. Bad timing for sure (for me anyway). I'll have to wait a bit, and suffer, while I am watching others talking about how great Kyosho's latest re-release is.
