New Yeti owner in need of motor/esc advice.
Hello....
After doing a lot of reading, I'm just more confused than ever. Im new at the brushless systems when it comes to choosing the correct system for a RC car. I purchased a Yeti kit and trying to decide if I should go with the motor/esc out of a RTR. (Keep it simple.) or go with the one listed below.
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...1&I=LXBLCE&P=K
Is there a big difference between the stock RTR system and the one above? If not, I'll get the RTR system. I can pick up one for $120.00 new. (One of them RTR part out sales.) If you have any suggestions, I'm all for them...
Thanks.......

What you are looking for is roughly about a 2800-3500KV 4 pole motor. That motor/ESC combo you selected will not work, as you need a 5MM shaft, not a 3.2 like on the Castle motor. This combo will work though.

Collector1231, Thanks for the reply. I really appreciate the links you provided. In the specs of the Castle motor it listed the shaft as 5mm. I copied and pasted the info below. "IF" the shaft is correct (5mm) how would the Castle system compare to the one you suggested. I do like the fact that the ESC you suggested is sensored. Can you recommend a sensored motor? Thanks again for your help/suggestions.
Shaft Diameter: 0.20" (5mm)
Can Diameter: 36mm
Can Length: 53mm
Connectors: 4mm bullet

Oops! And no problem, lol. The Castle seems to have too much KV and will be fast, but easily overheat, I'd think. I do not think you need a sensored motor for that either. Even if you did, you'd have to go with a 4x4 short course motor, which isn't bad, just a lot of power.

Thanks again for the help. Looks like the Track Star motor is on backorder. (My luck.) I mentioned sensored only because I read that if one wanted to do trail/rock climbing that sensored would be the way to go. Not that I'm really going to do much rock climbing.... just thought it would be nice to have just in case.

Ah, good point, lol. If you don't mind spending extra $, then you can get another brand.

Funny that you suggested that motor. I have this set up saved on ebay, but wasn't familiar with the brand.

You can use any shaft size you want, you just gotta make sure to use 32 pitch pinion gears. I'm running a sensorless 550 sized motor that I got from emilyandlily on eBay. Using that motor and Traxxas Summit pinion gears at the moment. The no-name black motor has a 1/8" (3.175mm) shaft and no problems. On the other hand, my Viper 550 motor has a 5mm shaft which, I believe, is more common on the larger motors. The maximum length of a motor that will fit in the Yeti without modification is 68mm. That is for a sensorless motor. Using a Neu-Castle 1512 motor, that I use with 3S packs, I have about 1mm before the battery tray becomes a factor. If you plan on a sensored motor, you will need to take the cable input into consideration. You definitely want at least a 550 sized motor though.

I used the Castle Motor/esc combo for Mamba max pro SCT 2400 kv. I did have to trim the battery tray a tiny bit but it does not impede any battery from fitting. In fact it almost looks like it was meant to be there. I love the torque and the top speed is totally controllable. Now I have a 4600kv for another vehicle, I am imagining that will be too fast, but the other vehicle is geared lower so I anticipate similar top speeds with tons of torque.

My low budget black no-name 550 4300kv 4pole got a work out last year.
Some are sold with the name Rocket Racing/Surpass and I don't recommend them now, only 'cause of the prices went up since last year...almost doubled in some spots. There are better motors out there for the same price now.The specs on the motor have 12v as the maximum input. That being said, I threw a 3S pack in the Yeti...freakin' thing shot off; slid sideways into a tree. Motor gets extremly hot and I pretty much expect the motor to give up soon if I keep up the lawn/3S torture.

Nice Castle combo! I'm assuming you are running 3S with that 2400kv motor.
