What did I do? Ugh!!
So I accidentally connected my new lipo battery to the the esc in reverse. The deans connector was in reverse and I didn't notice. I started to smell something burnt and the battery wires were hot so I shut it off and disconnected it. After I noticed the problem I reconnected my Nimh to test the truck and ONLY the steering works. The throttle does not do anything. My question is, shouldn't the whole thing stop working, or can this happen when the esc is damaged? And do I need a new motor now also? I'm so mad at myself smh. Anyway thanks in advance for any input.

It sounds like you prolly cooked the esc. This exact reason is why i push the traxxas plugs because it's impossible to plug them in the wrong way (there are other one way plugs of course). Sorry you had to learn that the hard way The motor may still work but i seriously doubt the esc will live again. Hope this helps!

I've repaired ESC before from a reverse polarity mistake. Maybe just lucky, or the circuit board just happened to melt the copper foil quickly before any major damage was done. I soldered a connection between the two copper ends, and viola, ESC was up and running again. I'm always opening up stuff that doesn't work.

Hey Rustyus, thanks for chiming in. I didn't force the deans plug the wrong way lol. My esc has banana plugs and I put an adapter on the deans to convert it to a banana. That's where everything went wrong lol. Thanks soooooo much for this picture bro, I think I'm going to look inside also now that you mention it. I mean I can't break it any more I guess right?

That's how I ended up with "smoked" ESC as well. Some of my battery packs have +/- bullet inputs reversed and when in a hurry...poof! I now try to mark my positive side on my battery packs to help, stupid me, see better.
