How to clean a brushed motor?
So I've seen videos online where people run the motor in a glass of water for a while and others where they spray the motor with a cleaner. The water thing is obviously cheaper but is that bad for it in the long run? Does anyone have experience doing either? And if so what were your results or suggestions? Thanks!

You have a magnet, and copper wire, neither worry about water. Cleaners can be water based, so no difference in "protection" there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCEiOnuODac
What are you cleaning? Augered into sand/dirt? Getting it all out will be difficult, running it in water can suspend the grit, blowing it out with compressed air. That would be my concern, not the water. WD40 isn't going to find drops of trapped water and move them. Try alcohol for that.

It's a brushed 550 motor and it's been run through sand, dirt, and gravel. Might even have a few leaves in there somewhere lol. I've seen a ton of videos but wanted to hear of anyone's personal experiences. Thanks for the input guys!!
