Default What do I need for a Tamiya Grasshopper kIt?

I want to build a Grasshopper with my son, but I've never done anything with RC cars. It says that it also needs:
  • Radio
  • Stick Pack
  • 6 Cell Battery
  • 8 AA Batteries
What exactly are these things?

Thanks!

Default Just a Thought

If you are ordering from Tower Hobbies, then I'd take advantage of their coupons when you are doing a larger order.

Something like the following examples will be needed for getting the Tamiya kit up and running:

Charger - TowerHobbies.com Hitec X1 Nano AC Charger
Battery - TowerHobbies.com Venom NiMH 6-Cell 7.2V 3000mAh Stick Universal Plugs
Charge Lead - TowerHobbies.com Duratrax Charge Lead Banana Plugs to Standard
Servo - TowerHobbies.com Tower Hobbies TS-140 Std Digital HS 2BB MG Servo U
Radio - https://www.amazon.com/GoolRC-Digita...HQ6Q7G45AHNYJ2

Lots of other options out there than what is listed above. I just picked out some items for a lower budget. For the batteries, I'd get at least two packs to keep the fun going longer. Get out there and throw some dirt! And don't for get the paint .

Thank you for the replies. That will get us up and running! It's a fun project for when he's out of school for the summer.

Question: I see that servos come in digital or analog. How do I know whether or not my radio receiver will work with it?

I have used digital servos with an old AM Futaba receiver...never had any problems. The "guts" of a digital servo is the same as an analog servo, except for the microprocessor. The processor just reads the incoming signal faster, and in turn control the servo's motor faster. Downside to having greater resolution, and holding power...a tad bit more power consumption.

Here is a link you should bookmark...Understanding RC Servos ? Digital, Analog, Coreless, Brushless

Some of the info is "heli" oriented, but a good explanation of things .

Well, aint that just a pisser. I went and looked at the servo that I linked, and no replacement gear set anymore! I've searched everywhere. The TS-140 servo has been a trusty sidekick for about 12 years now. I've used it mostly in my buggy, but it did it's time in a stadium truck as well. I've only replaced the gears in that servo once since I bought it.
