Default Hobbywing EZRun WP-SC8

A motor almost completely seized up and the ESC shot crap out of it's capacitors. I first thought I fried the ESC. I hooked up another motor and battery...the darn thing still works.

After searching the interwebs for how to replace the capacitors on the EZRun WP-SC8, I came up with nothing. So I opened 'er up. Well, I tried to anyway. Meh, the thing is sealed tight.

I ordered a cappack in hopes of just using that soldered to the ESC's battery leads. Will that work without taking the other capacitors out?

They dont complete the circuit as you know , so I dont see why not .
There might be an ideal position for a capacitor , but I have seen plenty soldered on the battery leads/posts .
What were you doing when it happened ?

I have a Hobbywing Max10 that says you can add a extra cap pack to the battery leads so I don't see why you can't on the sc8. I would think though you would want the the cap packs capacitors to have the same rating as those in the esc or even slightly lower so you would blow the cap pack first before those in the esc.

I wish I had a video of it. I never saw anything like it. My motor somehow became very, very hard to turn over. Giving the buggy full throttle, it would maybe go 2 MPH . Took off the body to see what was a matter. I cut a couple of zipties. Everytime I would yank on the trigger (WOT), the one motor wire would jump. It would lift itself off the other motor wires. Weird. Everything got very warm, and ....pow! Puff of smoke, and brown juice shot out the ESC.

Thanks for the reply. I just gotta wait 'til capPack gets here. I just didn't want to hurt anything by adding "more" than what was already there.

Thank you. That explains a lot.

Just gave the buggy all kinds of heck on the track. CapPak wired up; glued to the side of ESC, and hanging on for dear life. Don't know if it's doing what it's supposed to be doing, but the WP-SC8, with onboard blown caps, feels like it did when it was new. I'm so glad I didn't have to go out and buy another ESC.
