Probably not, if you run just 6 cells. It will certainly shorten it's life span because of increased voltage and increased heat, but you won't necessarily kill it.
Should you do it? No. It's not worth the risk, especially if you have no access to a new ESC should your current one fail.
If you don't have enough money for an ESC and a motor, don't get either. Save your money, and when you can afford to get something descent, then do it. Trying to do it on the cheap might work for a short while, but there's no guarentee.

You guys are going to think me crazy, but years ago, when I was a teenager running high motors (13 triple) on a Novak racing speed control, that I didn't know what the motor limit on was, my dad is very good with electronics, so he installed a resister in line on the motor lead between the motor and the ESC. (yes, I know that was a very long sentence!) I may've lost some power, etc. but back then it didn't matter to me. I'm still using the same ESC 15 years later. He did this because I was melting connectors left and right. After he did that I didn't have the problem anymore ....

all you had to do was shorten the wires or make them thicker, must of been some big resistor to support like 100+ amps, and for jkrust you can use that 19t fine aslong as u dont go overgearing the motor. if u used a 19t motor on a 15t limit esc then u cud overgear it but to be safe just keep the gearing in mind

i take it that they are tamiya connecters? if so they do tend to melt very easily with more powerfull motors that pull a fair bit of current. Unfortunatly tamiya connecters will melt, change to deans or corallys this will solve your problems.

deans have the lowest resistance, if your connectors on the motor are melting then you need to use thicker wire.

Shouldn't bother it too much. It just might trip the thermal protection on occasion. No harm done. I ran a 16T for a long time on an 18T rated LRP Runner plus reverse. No problems, never even tripped it.
