Not to get all scientific on you or anything, but for those wishing to drive their r/c's on mars you should quit with the baking experiments and head to the deep freezer.

Mars is the fourth planet from the sun - the temperature at the planet's surface varies widely during the course of a Martian day, from about 186 K (-87 °C) just before dawn to about 253 K (-20 °C) in the afternoon.

ORIGINAL: tn rc bug

Am I missing something?
When do you plan on running your truck on Mars?

Water biols at 212ºF. With a heavy concentration of NaCl (salt) you can raise the boiling point to 260ºF tops.
actually, mars is a very cold planet as it is further from the sun than the earth

EDIT: oops, i didn't realize that you were alreday corrected

I am amazed by the number of people stripping idlers. I can maybe understand it when running 13t motors or so, but with stock or higher wind motors???? I have always suspected idlers strip cause people don't pay enough attention to the slipper (which self tightens very quickly without two nuts or thread lock on it to keep the adjustment correct...)

I run mine pretty long in gearing (27/88) with Reedy Quad 19t and have never had any idler problems in 3 years - or other tranny problems since I properly starting setting my slipper.

Tight slippers make it fun to "peel out" but ruin trannys - even on my Losi XXXT.

Thats great advise. I have to admit that I lost two idler gears before I discovered that the nylock slipper clutch nut had worn out. But, like you said, a new nut and some threadlock and problem solved.

Well i just wanted to point out that the DTX parts( chassis, arms, mounts, braces, etc.) were designed to be boiled for 2 hours in order to make the parts less brittle in colder weather.

What is the best way to determine that the slipper clutch is adjusted properly?

You should hear the motor spin (kind of a "singing" sound) when starting quickly from a standstill, without rear tires spinning (assuming good traction). Most evader owners have never heard the slipper clutch sound because it self tightens on the very first one or two runs without a second nut. It took me about a month of playing with it before I realized it would self tighten. I spent a frustrating afternoon carefully adjusting it, then one run around the cul de sac and bingo, it would be tight again. The second nut is the key to maintaining the settings.

The physics of transmissions indicates with a properly set slipper it would be very difficult to strip an idler or other transmission gear, no matter how powerful the motor. The purpose of the slipper is absorb excess energy that may otherwise destroy parts.

Visit my website where I talk about a way to get the slipper clutch in the ball park: http://www.usd.edu/~cgutzman/evader

Hey......I really don't want to crash your party......however....you guys really need to STOP heating up PVC!!! In case you haven't heard, PVC becomes EXTREMELY toxic when heated. Of course, you won't feel a thing.....and you'll think that it's just burning plastic. In Italy, where most PVC components are formed at the factories, PVC factory workers are GARUNTEED to contract throat, stomach cancer even as soon as 10 years of working at the factories. There are HUGE lawsuits happening over there. I caught something on PBS like over a year ago. This lady had cancer and spent her last surviving months investigating and taking video of the PVC cancer "scam". Don't believe me??? Look around yourself....I'm sure you'll find something about it. So the next time, PLEASE, be a little more careful. And when the neighbors house catches on fire with all that PVC vinyl siding.....get you and your family out of town for a couple of days.

I would assume you mean PVC is toxic when burned, not when heated.

Who cares what the wheels are made of. there not going to get to 310 degrees when you are driving it. upgrated it can run and bash with the big boys! so please, stop hatein

I mean that when PVC is heated/burned....and emits a smell. When you smell it....it is, therefore, being "inhaled". Sorry to sound so "careful".....but if you had watched this documentary, you'd understand what I feel. The camera crew was removed by security at the edge of one the parking lots of the factories. In fact, they were on the PUBLIC street when taking the air samples to prove their point about how far the components float through the air. As expected, the PVC industry wants to cover this up.
