The only one I recognize is Hara, but then I don't follow RC like a fan. I care more about their hardware and how it can help me go faster. I'd invite any 5 of those drivers to run some dirt oval with me and see how well they do

Hara won that A-Main and he won the A-Main in one of his off-road classes held here at the Silver State Nitro Challenge. My guess would be the monkey would get spanked and if he didn't believe he would get spanked, he needs to get a ROAR membership and start competing "officially".

Oh I'm sure I would, left AND right in the same race feels alien to me. I turn left, and I do it well. I'm aware of Hara's resume, and he is indeed very good. But that's his world, not dirt oval. Put him on a dirt oval and I'd say he'd be chum in the water..

It appears that you don't believe Hara can drive off-road oval yet he took the A-Main in one of the off-road classes at Silver State though it was not restricted to an oval. Good drivers can set up and pretty much drive anything. Think about it--they show up at a new track, have a little practice, modify a set up, and race. Yet, some people who run the same type of RC and the same track layout over and over again, can't compete or at least compete in the class.
After all, what is oval? The same layout using different tire diameters, different weight oil, different spring tensions, etc. Perhaps, a little radio adjustment so it may effect the rate of acceleration in the one turning direction. Basically, oval is nothing but a different type of set up--or at least it is in quarter scale on road racing. Around here the joke is that when one gets older or basically lazier, then its off to the quarter scale track since it is just an oval.
In case you didn't know it, there is also dirt oval in Arizona and one of the manufacturers of outlaw cars wanted to try and get races going here--so far, I haven't seen any and though I was sort of impressed with his RCs, I didn't purchase one. Of course, 1/5th scale motorcycles didn't take off here either despite holding the 1st National Championships last year. My point being is that not everyone "restricts" themselves to the same type of RC and track. Either way, if you ever race dirt oval in Arizona, let me know and I may head that way.

Most people that have never raced dirt oval totally underestimate the difficulty in "just turning left". It's ok, I get it all the time. Try it once, you'll understand. Off road and oval are WORLDS apart.

Hey Speed, when you race dirt oval, how consistant do you race? Do you complete a 5min race with no crashes taking the same line everytime (except when needed to over-take people), or do you swirve all over the place, trying just to finish each lap as it comes?
This isn't nocking you, it's just I have never seen a dirt oval race, and I was wondering how consistant everything is?

Around here, oval races don't go on time. You run 25 or 35 laps to a finish, like NASCAR or 1:1 dirt oval races. Ideally, you want to run the same line, but that isn't always possible. Myself, I aim for the same spots on the track everytime. If I hit them, I'm roughly where I want to be. I made some videos a long time back of my practice laps and in it I was nailing the same spec of dirt every lap. That's what you want to see happen. When you are flying all over the place, avoiding wrecks and making some yourself, it isn't nearly as effective. Of course, there is a time when you have no coice but to find a new line, like if someone is sitting in your groove and the only way around is to take him out or find a new path. I don't take anyone out intentionally, so I try to be proficient at running multiple lines on the track. I do this one thing that people call "the wall trick" in which I actually leave the dirt surface and run my truck along the outside wall. It looks cool, sounds killer and actually helped me avoid a wreck lastweek. A couple guys tangled in one of the turns, and the safe thing to after recovering from a wreck do is to go high where no one is running. Then get back up to speed and go low again. Well, one guy went high, one guy went low, right in my line. So, I put the tires on the wall and flew around the guy hugging the outside wall.. The crowd loved it, the guy that went high didn't heheheh

Sounds fun, I bet the secret to oval racing is a good setup, and lots of track pratice and race time.
Explain this 'wall-ride' thing a little better, your going fast enough to get ur car to drive on a verticle for enough time to get around a car? Like a F1 rac car has enough down force to drive upside down, you can drive on a virticle wall? Thats cool is you can .

Here is a link to my 1/4 scale in action though I wasn't driving it at the time. The driver off one of the other 1/4 scales was also a ROAR champion.

Here is a photo of my 1/4 scale on the same track.

As far as that goes, then something like off-road 1/8th scale nitro buggy may be more fun since you turn "both" directions and have jumps. Dang, that must also be why I own a Mugen mbX5.

I'm a long time fan of latemodel and dir track racing. Concrete oval looks like a blast and if it were big around here I'd give it a go, but it would never replace slinging the ass end of car/truck sideway and carrying the left front through the turns.
The wall trick looks like this:
With the T4...

This was done way back in the spring. I've since learned to put it up just past where the drivers stand.
With the Losi...

As you can see, I got better at it Imagine that going by you in a race.. There was talk of banning it, but I agreed not to do it unless it was unavoidable or if the lead was obscene I'd do it just to make the crowd cheer..
