Default xb rising storm

ok ....hi everyone . This is my first post and ...well .....i am new so NO flaming ok .....tell me nicely if i do something wrong.....Right . here's my situation. My missus bought me a tamiya xb rising storm for xmas. Worked ok ....so i decided to hop it up to the max. I bought a fireball 17 turn motor, M Troniks ESC Viper RV15, Superstreet wheel conversion, some 7.2v 2300 mah batteries, every metal bracket and hub u can think of ..anyway....i am getting away from the point. this car now flies. for about 5 mins that is. the esc seems to reset itself after that amount of time. i have been told that that the mtroniks viper is a ***** to setup but i am sure i have done everything to the letter...... if anyone can give me any detailed help as to do this properly i would be very grateful as the guys at the mtroniks website are pretty much a waste of time.

Thanks in advance

Sounds like it might be overheating - can the ESC handle a 17 turn motor?

When you got the 17T motor did you put a smaller pinion gear on it or are you still running the stock 19 tooth pinion. If you are still running the 19 tooth pinion, you probably want to put on a smaller one. A 15 tooth would be a good place to start.

Well I don't know what the internal gear ratio is on the Rising Stom is, but you are most likely over geared running a 19 tooth pinion on a 17t motor. That is likely why you are thermaling your ESC.

Also your new tires look larger in diameter than stock which will increase your roll out, hence making your car even more overgeared with the 19 tooth pinion.

WHOA!!Before go and by a 15t pinion realise that 1. yes you are overgeared, but 2. the gearing setup on the rising storm will not work with a 15t pinion. I've tried lowering the gearing, and in every possible possision the gear mesh is never correct, resulting in stripped spur gears. You'll need a custom motor mount to change the gearing, really. Besides that, the lowest you can really go is 18t.

I bet what's exactly wrong is just the overheating.....oh well. The stock gearing made my 27t motor go like 32mph. It's so high i can only run that motor in the winter kuz it gets so hot.

Well that stinks. Well maybe then get a nice stock motor and put on a much bigger pinion.

Solution:

take an ice pack, and put it on it. It really works. Beware if the ice pack melts.

I might buy that thing if you have it reasonably priced.

At a club level it is very possible to race, and i have seen someone run it at regional level with success; if my track holds 4wd buggy i will surely race it. All you need is the 67t spur, bearings, a dremel(hacking off some stuff for weight loss) a good motor, and some driving skills. It poses a few problems compared to the other 4wd bugs though.
1.) gearing options are limited
2) no toe/camber adjustment.
3.) Bottoms out quite easily, but this can be fixed with some fuel tubing on the shock shaft.

If you want to get pretty serious with it you'll want to get some cvd's by Yeah racing and the aluminum steering kit.

Tamiyacrawler, you can indeed adjust toe, but you're right--camber is fixed, and you're right about the rest of the restrictions.

Kind a, only on the steering tie rods, but that's will work as toe up front.None on rear.

Yes, that's what I was thinking. Should have specified only up front.
