Default RE: Successfull Motor Replacement!!!

I believe that the kit is about $129 (US) and $199 (US) for the RTR XB Hummer.

Default Some trials style action!!

Well, the Hummer is mostly complete. I have more to do on the cosmetics, but I'll save that for the coming bad weather season.

The bad news is that I had to re-roof my garage, down to the rafters. The good news is that the huge pile of yard debris behind the garage got tossed when the old roofing got tossed. My wife suggested that I turn the bare patch into a rc course (she's the BEST!).

So I've started trying different course obstacles. I've been VERY pleased with how the Hummer climbs! A few pics:

(all real action shots, no posers!)

PIC.
Someone asked for a pic of me and my mate's Hummers on tour. I'm sorry to say we've not yet brought a camera on any of the trips.
But I did bring it the other day when I was out alone

JUST CURIOUS......

...why is this thread locked? ...noticed that the "post reply"-button wouldn't activate...
Seems to me this is the all time high popular topic.

Cheers!

Damn, I haven't been in here for a while (got a little side-tracked with riding my Gixxer and playing Airsoft). I'm impressed with what I've seen so far. Made me not want to get a Pajero chassis a little bit.. hehe.. I'm now on a mission to do a project on my Hummers. The main focus is to get rid of the tub chassis that it has. I'm also acquiring an extra Hummer chassis that I will use to put on a nice plastic body.. hoping nobody has it yet! Raising the ground clearance means lifting the battery higher. Yes, it will affect high speed handling but I'll be doing about 90% crawling this time [>:].. The key is to increase the ground clearance on the bottom middle of the chassis. After checking out and taking pointers from those german links from Cafestomp, I'm ready to design and build my own new design. But here's my own Hummer for your viewing pleasure.. Go USA!!!

Nice to see someone still posts here. I hadn't checked in quite a while and much to my surprise, 3SGTE has a new post today. I'll be curious to see what direct your new chassis takes!

I've considered changing mine to a similar configuration as the some of the German ones also. But I haven't quite finished the first version. I haven't run my Hummer (or any other RC besides my ZipZaps monster truck) in a long time. I need to replace the Hummer gear boxes, as the mounts for the screws keep cracking. I can just order new ones, but they will crack also. I need to figure out a way to replace or strengthen the gearboxes.

A generous amount of chrome and driving lights

A view of the side

Full interior with GPS!!!

My H1 with LED's

Better articulation as a result of more room in the fender area..

It looks great! I wasn't sure the first time I saw it that you had already modded it! Very clean mod. Is it otherwise stock? How does it drive?

Thanks Brett, the chassis is still bone-stock but I'll be installing longer travel tamiya shocks (like the pajero shocks) for more articulation. But the bad thing right now is that I don't have springs for it. I'd like to keep the springs soft like the Pajero springs. If not, what longer shocks/springs would you suggest? I got the wrong tires for the traxxas rustler rims I got for the H2. They were a little too big. Hopefully I'll be able to get the right size tires by next week as I got a lot of things to do. As of now, I haven't had the time to make it run but I do have all the electronics including my 3 channel fm receiver and an Mtroniks Sonik4 RV Max ESC. I have plans for that 3rd channel so stay tuned . I already installed the other 55turn motor on the other Hummer with a 20t pinion. It crawled fine and the top speed was pretty decent. But I think a 19t pinion would provide a better balance. I'll be using an 18t pinion for the H2 because of the slightly bigger tire..

I've been prepping my Hummer for the spring driving season. I eventually plan on rebuilding a new chassis, but here's a pic of the progress on the front end.

Well I got most of it back together, enough for a test run.

I managed to squeeze a 14t pinion in place of the 16t pinion for a little more low end control. All it really required was a little filing of the motor mount to enlarge one screw hole. I did cut a hole in the side of the gearbox to check pinion depth and mesh. It is just barely acceptable on the mesh. It really should be a pinch closer to the spur(?). After my brief test run I think it really should be meshed tighter. That will require a little filing of the gearbox to allow the motor to rotate further back.

With the 55t motor and a 14t pinion, it is Sloooow. That's okay with me as I never do anything but Trials type stuff.

I wish I had some movies of others trialing their Hummers so I had a point of reference as to how mine is progressing. I've never seen anyone trial driving a RC vehicle.

I suspect I still will want to try the "high" style of chassis for better ground clearance, but I have been very surprised at what it will drive over with my current chassis. Next task is to work on ackerman steering and other steering related issues to fine tune the performance. It really needs a tighter turning radius. With a 100% locked rear (used to be about 90%-ish) and the front always having been a very limited slip set-up, I need to do whatever I can to restore a tighter steering radius.
