ORIGINAL: screaminglife

THAT is the reason i would NEVER EVER use a diff locking oil (or whatever you wanna call it)... i would shell out the extra 30 bucks to get a actual locked diff... like the one RC4WD sells. I have one of those that i swap out from time to time...

yeah tell me about it, i have been scrapping with my tiny flat head screw driver for about an hour nd i am only done with one of those pieces and there is 5 total. not to mention once i am done i get to start all over again with the next axle. WOO HOOO!!!

if anyone knows a better way please let me know asap. thanks

I haven't tried them yet.. ! I sent 2 sets to ArildS and I know he is cooking up something crazy (cough, Mamba Monster, cough.. ) so I will wait to see his report..

I have a feeling that the center driveshafts will break before these MIP CVDs break... !!
Cough cough. Luckily I have some stronger driveshafts too

The easiest / best way is probably just to order the new gears for the diff...

I wonder how smooth it would be once you clean them off....

I am no expert on grease.. ha! For diff, I just use automotive grease.. I am sure other grease will be fine too!

hey i have heard somewhere cant remember where about using something to make the diff to act like it is locked when it needs to be. i read about it in some forum and it seemed to me like it was something like gum and was common. lol - i know this sounds stupid - forgive me

People try all sort of things.. rubber bands, Tamiya's anti-wear grease (very thick), etc. Feel free to try them but I never bothered.. would love to have some sort of LSD but it is difficult with this particular design of diff..

If it is similar to 1/8th nitro buggy (sealed diff), you can tune them w/ silicon fluid.. but not this one...

Yeah, not easy to put enough resistance on the gear when the tires are so huge.....

ran my truck today and broke it again. ran straight into a curb! i am just swapping broken pieces in rear axle with good ones from front axle. was running with diffs unlocked for first time and tightened all my tie rod ends, ran pretty good for 2WD. one question though, is my run time supposed to be 20 -25 min??

and where can i get that piece?

I did a quick swap after it broke so I could keep running it. Everything is put back together already. But I will take pics next time I break something and have to take it apart. Damn I think these tires are too big and have too much grip and that’s why I am breaking things.

To give you an idea though, in the previous pic posted the beveled gear shaft (MR10) broke cleanly in half right where the bearing in the middle is. I found the part from tamiya but how long will it take to ship? And tower doesn’t seem to carry it, or do they?

Will this work for my txt rear servo TowerPro MG995?

DuraTrax Servo Mount Steering Maximum ST/BX (2)

[link]http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXD372&P=7[/link]

I am going to make some custom mounts, but until then i want something cheap and that will do the job at least temporarily

alright, heres a new one. kinda glad i broke it since it is gonna help me decide what to do with it. i originally wanted to beef up the steering links, relocate the servo, and remove those hideous axle guards. looks like i will be shopping for something NOT plastic! to mount lower arms.

same thign hapened to me. Too much ramming into things and jumping and landing on the back of the axles destroyed mine. luckly i hads spares to replace it until i get metal ones

since you live in san bernardino it takes about a day or two after they ship. I live in Los Angeles and the TamiyaUSA offices are only in irvine and Carson so it takes no time at all. Good to be a tamiya fan in SoCal cause anything you need arrives at your door in less than two days.

i guess i am just running my truck into the ground until it wont go no more! that way i can see what parts i will need to upgrade before i purchase parts. that way when i am done she will look pretty and run well and hopefully stayt in one piece so i will only have to worry about mainteance and i can enjoy it.
