It might take longer than that. I've done a nitro to electric conversion and it's a real money pit. My first try:
Ofna MBX R2 $180.00
CF Motor Mount $25.00
Spektum DX2 $180.00
Futaba 9341 Steering $100.00
Futaba 3050 Throttle $50.00
MTroniks Truck ESC $185
Feigao 540C 9L Motor $85
6000Mah LiPo (2) $260
TOTAL $1075.00 (and I'm sure I'm forgetting several things)

This is a decent basher setup that's good for 5 minute runs. Any longer than that, and you risk frying the ESC. I didn't know that until it was too late. If you want 20 minute runs you need better electronics:
MGM Compro 160 or Quark Monster Pro 125 ESC $285.00
Lehner 1940-9 motor $285

With these electronics, the price is up to $1475.00

I got tired of all the crap and spending money, so I ditched the project and bought a Mugen MBX-5 with an RB .21 C5B. This is a top-notch nitro buggy package. Comes in at $1000.00. I'm not trying to discourage, but you are definitely in for more that you think. Put a nice dependable O.S. RG engine in that LX Comp (if it doesn't have an engine already) and enjoy now.

Why would you want to though? I'm honestly curious. Just because of the challenge?

thanks. i just spoke with someone i know who did this and it cost $500 not including the raddio/servo/batteries. so if i take the cost of his buggy (180) away i get 320 american. i will have by christmas at least the pinion, plastic spur, motor mount,2 venom 3000's. then for christmas i will get the bl and some other stuff and i will be rolling.

Plastic spur? Maybe you should go for a metal one and some grease.

Sounds like a fun project. I just bought the lx comp as my first nitro and it's a blast to drive. Ya you probably wouldn't need the spectrum radio and those expensive servos. I like the hitec 645mg servo for the comp. I'm curious as to how you will set it up. Good luck

If nothing else, get a top quaility motor. It will make your setup run cooler, longer and stronger. If you want to build something that you will enjoy, don't go cheap:
The motor mount must be very strong - at least 1/4" aluminum
Don't use Venom 3000 cells - A high voltage BL system will cog with anything but great cells
You need FM, if not Spektrum

I'll bite.. The Official Conversion Thread Eh?

Well, My Losi LST Electric Conversion has been complete for a long while now. It's been upgraded to Novak HV-Brushless and runs real good.

Right now, I'm in the process of getting a real job (just graduated from the ol' University) but when I do... Another Brushless conversion awaits.

For now check out my website for all the pictures and details of my conversion in Hi-Res:

Plastic spur? Maybe you should go for a metal one and some grease.
I know from experience that Adding grease does not prolong the life of the Metal Spur against a Metal Pinion. It actually tends to accelerate the wear by attracting small metal filings and grinding them between the gears like sand.

My Brushless LST is a bear to keep pinions in. The hardened metal spur gear is a champion, but I replace the metal pinion gears from time to time because they just don't hold up well.

I also have an upgraded slipper installed in my LST, adjusted to allow SOME play in the gear so it doesn't just eat up the pinion.

Uh-Oh... It's time for another conversion.

I'm keeping the ol'e website up to date for those of you interested. This time I've got a larger bankroll to work with, so hopefully the conversion goes more smoothly!

Sweet Conversion StudySession. I'd like to do a buggy as my next project... Probably an Ofna Hyper 8 Conversion--- Or a Truggy... I'm still up in the air.

As for the newest conversion I am working on, check it out on my website.

I've reorganized it a little, so if you want to see some pictures of the older project, you can click the "LST-Maxx" project in the "Completed Projects" Section.
OTHERWISE, just scroll down on the RC page to see the progress on my Newest LST2 Conversion... I have yet to give it a name yet... Anyone got any ideas?

Check it: http://www.deependstudios.com/rc.html
