Yeah, the picture on page one of this thread is actually the 134 mph car, the converted 4wd NTC3. The 160 mph car was, a Custom Works dirt oval car.

RE: 160 mph Brushless!!
The people I talked to who were actually there said the 160 was a mistake and even the guy who allegedly made the record did not care for it to stand (only for his 134mph record with his other car). It was pressure from the rc mag people (whatever the name of their publication is) to 'set the bar high for next year' that tries to make the 160 stand. The people there say it seemed more like 116 than 160 and the 160. The problem was the 2WD car had more problems than the 4WD with keeping it's drive wheels on the ground and hence needed even more downforce and was rather unstable for this reason.
People at the event had problems with radio range. Their cars would take so long to get up to speed and then stop at the other end that it would often exceed the range of an airtronics before they were able to stop and turn around. The big problem with 160 is that when you get over 100mph every 10mph is like an order of magnitude. We probably won't see a real 160 for another year or two, but then you never know. There is a huge difference between 160mph and 134mph.
For what I remember in talking to people, the car that did 134 had the spur gear switched out with a pinion gear to get the necessary ratio. Every run the guy would go up another four teeth, and that would give about 4-6mph more. The car was running a castle creations 85 amp ESC that was more often used for helis and then an 8s LiPo and some kind of inrunner motor not normally used for cars, something made for helis or aircraft probably. Fortunately it was a cool day so most people did not run into any serious heat problems. Everyone was really nice and it was overall more of a fun event than a you-vs.-them competition to see who could get the highest speed.
Getting past 100mph requires a few things to be 'perfect' -- tires, transmission, stability, etc. If any of these things are off, it's not going to happen.

HOLY CRAP !! I never would have believed that but the truth is on the video. I once saw a rc car go faster But it was tethered and drove in a circle. That 134 is just amazing[:-]
