F-150 requires 16-- 5x11 and 6-- 5x8 bearings.

I can't find a kit of bearings on ebay with that spec, so I'm gonna end up buying a kit and adding a few bearings.

If you are putting in another order from Tower, next time, get that TLT bearing set (20 5x11) from Tamiya.. it is $26, but it is no more expensive than if you buy DuraTrax ones.. (and you can use coupon..) Get a set of those and sit around as spares.. cause you know Tamiya always need them 5x11!!

5x8, get a set of 10 from Tower (Duratrax brand) for like $12 or so..

Not too bad, I guess..

Again, should just get one of those and put them in your parts bin..

It seems like the suspension arms are shorter than the ones used on the TA02 for buggys? What other differences are there compared to the buggy? I have a beat up old Manta Ray chassis I bought off of ebay as spares for my sons Blazing Star. Would be good to convert this chassis into a truck.

The Blazing Star and the Manta ray are identical except the wheels and bodies. The problem both of them have is that the rear end is very soft and droops dramatically with little rebound on the springs, it will be interesting to see if this kit has the same issue.

I'm doubting there will be any droop. The shocks the way I built them are very stiff and seem to do a real nice job of holding the wieght of the truck. I think it'll be almost perfect for the model once I get it up and running.

If it's really an issue, just add somemore proload clips to the shocks... bring it up a little bit.

Finished up building the chassis this evening... took it for a quick run.

I'm pleased to report it has MUCH better handling than my Tamiya Lunchbox. I didn't run it with a charged battery, so I'm not sure how the speed is yet (On the stock Tamiya 540 Can). I've got 4 upgraded motors on their way, so I'll be replacing it with a 19t or a 14t... depending on how tests go.

Real nice kit overall, you get quite a bit for your money.

I began to paint the f-150 body this evening. Let me tell you, this one was not an easy paint scheme at all. The curved lines presented a bit of trouble for me as I am not a spectacular painter, but I think once everything gets together, it'll look a top.

The scheme uses 3 colors: Metallic Blue, White, and Silver (for the accents, like the tire hub and grille).

I'll post some pictures as soon as the paint fumes clear. [:'(]

Well here is the progress that I made tonight. Spent about 5 hours masking, cutting, painting, masking, masking... lol.

Anyway, I'm VERY pleased with my work. This is only my second body painting attempt. I did it all with Rustoleum Cans.

Masking the major parts up and laying down a coat of metallic blue. (If you didn't already notice, I'm going for the stock paint scheme).

Then some bright white...

I used a "Metallic" Sharpie to outline where the decals would go on the over-spray film. This acted as my guide when I was masking.

Then the final shots of the finished product with the accents applied.

I love the color scheme... It's the same one I used on my LST2 Silverado body.

That looks pretty darn good man. Just a tip, those lexan bodies are meant to be painted from the inside. The paint will last much longer that way .

All the paint you see on that body is on the "inside" of the shell.

When I took the picture and compressed it to a .jpg, it kindof made it look like I painted the outside.

aha, my mistake. Looking back at the pics I can tell more. I guess the masking on the outside threw me off. Looks great anyways

Thanks alot for the comments. I really surprised myself this time, the paint came out looking almost exactly like the box... Which is what I was looking for.

Took it for a spin today and it was a definite eye catcher in the neighborhood. Two people commented on the setup. I'm really impressed with this kit, if I haven't already said that!

Definately one of the kits I'd recommend to anyone who's looking for an inexpensive, scale looking kit. One thing I really noticed: It turns on a dime with the skinny tires and a "Standard 50oz" servo.

Well after some extensive driving with it yesturday and this morning, I'm definately going to have to get some Ball Bearings for it.

The drive train is very complex, which leads to higher resistance on the stock plastic bushings. The tamiya 540 can is getting about 15mins of runtime on a 3000mah battery but it seems very sluggish...

I think some bearings and an upgraded motor should bring it up to a quicker performance level.... Not that I'm expecting a race car by any means!

I am sure any performance motor will bring up the performance by a bit..

On my T-Egg, the magazine tested it w/ the stock 540 silver can and clocked it at 12.6mph or something.. and then they swapped in a 19T motor, and it was doing 21mph...

An 19T is not even that extreme, so.......

The truck looks REALLY good, man!! Great job on the paint job!! Now go put some bearings on it!!

Haha, yeah... The RC hobby is going to be a little slower for me for a few months.

I just got me a nice new 1:1 -- My first New Car since I Graduated College and Got a Decent Job!

Do a scale replica... That'd be solid. I've never had a car worth doing a scale replica of before (My last 1:1 was 1991 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme)

I might just stash a few bux away and try to do that, just for kicks. Heh. Not a bad idea.

AS for the F150, I'm hoping the new motors will be here today. Then we'll see what that trucks made of. =)
