RE: usa-1
thats one reason i was asking because you cant find parts for them anymore , they are a 4x4 with independant suspention. I have one in parts and I want another one or get rid of this one the only way this one would ever run again is to do alot of custom parts good luck

RE: usa-1
in stock form, they are a decent truck, years ago,RC car action, pitted a stock clod, against a stock usa-1 and the usa-1 beat the clod in almost every category, but, they do break parts easier, hence all the market support for clods. but,you can customize them,if you don't mind the work.

RE: usa-1
here is another,a new bright 1/6 scale hummer on a totally modded chassis. technically, the only thing left that is stock usa-1 on this truck, are the plastic gearbox halves. everything else is custom, including the gears in the gearboxes, which i made out of 4140 tool steel.

After i read that article I bought a USA-1. Its not at all a tough truck. The design is very fragile, and can not accept any more power. I destroyed the whole thing in a short time with just the stock Mechanical speed controller and motors. The Clod would have been a much better truck, and is still around...there must be a reason for that. But that was a long time ago.
Now i want a TXT. Thats a cool truck

RE: usa-1
an old company that used to be around(thorp engineering) offered an aftermarket outdrive set-up,for the stock usa-1 gearbox set-ups. now,my hummer truck, has those outdrives, but,i have steel gears, and i am using modified traxxas stampede slider shafts.
the other truck, has the stock plastic gears in the gearboxs, but,i made custom aluminum outdrive yokes, and again, mounted traxxas sliders to that. at the axle sides,i made steel outer axles, for the shorter truck,to accept the traxxas parts, and the stock wheel mount hubs. the hummer, uses the thorp outer axles, and i made clamp-on aluminum hubs,to bolt the aluminum wheels to.
usa-1's are not a truck, that you can build into an indestructable,off-road machine. that is where a clod, shows it's stronger design. the only reason i have ever modified a usa-1,is,the same reason a dog licks himself.....................because i can.

RE: usa-1
48chebbie, did the usa1 beat the clod in almost every category? can you show me that plz? well... when it comes to speed and track - yes. but in brute power? hell no!
in a test in RCMT.net a bullhead was beat the hell out of a usa1 in every power category

RE: usa-1
i believe it was r/c car action, and the article was back,i think around 1989-1990,and they built both trucks, box stock, and then compared them in a barrage of categories. all-out running, turning, stopping, climbing, pulling, etc. and in their story, the usa-1 was the winner. alot of that, came into account of the clodbusters ultra-stiff suspension with those 8 plastic friction shocks. all of us know, that 4 good 4 inch oil shocks,on a stock clod, makes the truck alot more liveable. the design of the usa-1,is the more widely used design................today,with better parts and materials, but, back then, with cheap, hard thermo-set plastic,it just didn't work.
there will never be a replacement in the electric monster truck world for the tried and true clodbuster, because for shear fun, parts availability, and vast choices of set-ups and ability, the clod will always be "the electric monster truck". period.

RE: usa-1
not in pulling! 3,9 kg usa1 didnt stand a chans against the 4,45 kg bullhead. (in the test both was stock)
bullhead was pulling the same weight in alot longer distance

RE: usa-1
no,the article had the 2 trucks pulling against each other. the stiff suspension of the clod, made it bounce, and spin, allowing the usa-1 to win the tug-o-war contest. in a sled pull,i don't doubt a bit that the clod won,i am just stating what the article said. i too,am a firm believer in the superiority of the clod, don't get your panties in a bunch

RE: usa-1
ok sorry but i doubt the usa1 was outpull the clod in a tug o war ... !! i just dont believe that. the clod axles are great for pulling!
and its physiqal impossible for a truck with gear ratio of "only" 20:1 to outpull a 10% heavier truck which has a 30:1 in gear ratio.
so iam chocked
i must see it with my own eyes to believe it

RE: usa-1
ah my friend, you miss the point of the entire workings, that is...............leverage. you see, with the clod/bullhead,the chassis sits so high, that you cannot attach your pulling chain or cable,to the chassis, unless you want to flip the truck. hence, you must attach the chain/cable to the rear axle housing. therefore, applying only leverage,to the rear driveline. on the usa-1,you attach the chain/cable to the rear of the chassis, therefore pulling the entire chassis, and the weight of the vehicle, down on all 4 wheels. that is how the inferior truck (usa-1) won the tug-o-war. thats why the clod, bounces and spins, almost no leverage is placed down on the driveline. i have both trucks,in dead stock form, and my usa-1 wins,in a tug-o-war with my stock clod. you can watch the usa-1 squat down, and dig in,and the clod, well,it hops, and once the usa-1 starts pulling the clod backwards,it's all over, period. it is leverage, and thats all.

RE: usa-1
yes i did suspect that... bad! still it dont seems to be logic. the motors are fitted right on the axles on the clod, and it has a little longer wheelbase than the usa1... that would(should) give the clod the triumphcard. and a another thing... its a mystery that the driveline on the usa1 hold up... i thought the dogbones would be destroyed
i didnt know the suspension was that important!
i would love to see a tug war! cant u fix one?

RE: usa-1
I have a clod and usa-1 and the clod won every time because the suspension on the usa would sag and pull a willy every time but put weight of the usa and it out pulled the clod but put weight on the clod and the usa 1 and clod wins unfortunately my axles and drive hubs are trashed and cant run the usa any more till i can make some custom drivetrain and so the only reason the clod out lasted the usa 1 is that you can make more custom variations of it.

RE: usa-1
now this is interesting! ... your clod won? (like i believed all the time)
48chebbie still the usa1 won the test in RCcaraction? now this is very strange....
we most figure this one out!
