Default 2WD vs. 4WD

i no the difference of 2 to 4wd, i was just wondering which one is more popular for racing, im getting my first car, a buggy, and wanted to get the one where i can race in races more. With 2wd i was going with the team associated rc10rs rtr and 4wd something from team losi or tamiya.

2WD sucks. I sold all my 2WD cars, went 4WD and will never look back! 2WD is fine with stock motors but as soon as you add some power it's burning out and fish-tailing all over the place. 4WD is no nonsense, no comotion, just hooks up and GOs!

Come for a ride in my Subaru STi. Rain/snow/gravel/etc you just drive without much thought of what the conditions are, just point and shoot.

i would look into losi and ea.i dont have one of the new buggys so im not going to tell you that one is better then the other just becouse i like ea.if your looking for a 2wd then i would look into the ea rc10b4 or the losixxx-cr.flip a coin if you have a hard time deciding.

See what people at the track near you run.Around here 2wd is much more common.

I disagree with signa about 2wd being uncontrollable with anything above stock motor. One of my B4's is running a mamba max 7700 brushless. Its all in the setup, tire choice, and most of all DRIVER!!

Its somewhat of a local type question. Most areas 1/10 scale is most common but there are areas where 1/8 scale is more common

2WD is more of a challenge to drive, especially on-road.
On-road 4WD (touring car) is the norm, but off-road electric 2WD is the norm with buggies or STs. 4WD on-road is modified only and it can be harder to find others who race that (depends on your area, though). 4WD tends to be a bit more newbie-friendly since you can accelerate out of trouble while 2WD it can be more difficult to steer out of a spin. But off-road 2WD is what most are using and even a newbie can learn it without much of a problem. I wouldn't want to start out with 2WD on-road though.

if you setup a 2wd onroad right such as lynx preditor,rc10l,bolink,eleminator or enything elts like them you can get going faster then a touring car.i race 4wd touring car mod at my local track and they just came out with a new class for 2wd pancars and all the oldtimers cameout with their 10 years plus pancars and they are runing 2 sec faster with 2wd.but i wouldent get one unless your lacal track has a class for it.its vary unpopular and not many people have them.

Yeah 'cos there is less loss, 4WD you have the driveshaft and the front axles which are made to turn, so there has to be some give there and all.

yea i made a thread a wile back and somone said the companys are just trying to make more money becouse their is so many parts.lol i wish companys would stop making the cars slower for onroad and just make some crazy fast newer pancars.these 10,12,even 16 year old cars are outruning modern cars.if you ask me thats retarded.lol

Well, I didn't say "uncontrollable" but I did imply more difficult due to only the rear wheels being driven. My first losi was an XXX-T. With a 10x2 motor, that thing was a handful!
Then I got an XXX-4. Same motor in that, it just launched and was albe to put tons of power down in the corners with the 4WD. Dropped a 14x2 into the XXX-T and race after race the XXX-4 was so predictable and fast there was no turning back to 2WD.

I do agree Slink1, a big part of it is the tires and the driver for sure.

Default RE: 2WD vs. 4WD

2WD is generally a little cheaper to do. Less complex and requires less power. All that helps to make it cheaper. The set up on 2WD is a little more criticle due to the less traction in the front.

4WD comes with its share of problems. Multiple diffs to tune. Playing with tires to get the right hook up in the front. But 4WD also has balls to the wall speed. If you can stick it in you can use it, motor wise that is. Tons of traction. Easier to drive. More competative.

The fact is you should get both. I like the AE B4 for 2WD and my new 10X from Tenth Tech is the absoulte bomb in 4WD. It kills my old BJ4. TTech makes a entry level car called the XRS. I bought one for my son. It is not that much slower than the 10X that costs 2 times as much. As a matter of fact the factory guys use many parts off the XRS on their 10X because they are lighter or more flexable. The Yokomo looks very nice. It will probally be like the BJ4 I think. I dont think it will be better than the 10X. But hay I have been wrong before. Good luck.

...

The XRS is entry level? I thought stuff like the Dark Impact would be....

AE is Associated Electrics, another name for Team Associated. They probably changed it when "Team" stuff was all popular, i have some old Losi stuff (tools and grease sorta thing) with just "losi ltd" on it..

2wd is usually faster with same kinda motor than a 4wd, but with less track. 4wd with twin motors is still the best

The XRS is the entry level TTech. That is what I stated. It is far superior to the Dark Impact.

4WD with twin motors??????? What buggy has twin motors. Besides one brushless is better than twin motors even twin nitro engines. I can assure that my 2WD is not faster unless you are only counting in a straight line. My comments were refeering to track conditions.
