Default Pitch

I know there are three types,32P,48P,64P. But, i never knew there was Standard and Metric Pitch. So, when I go to the LHS and ask for a 23T 48P pinion...why dont they ask if its a metric or standard? I know this has probably been covered before, but is there a site with Pitch information and details? Or can somebody explain to me with pics? Can a metric pinion be used with a standard spur?

I thought metric would be smaller? I was thinking the silver one is standard and black is metric.

Default RE: Pitch

The part that confuses me is pitch equals number of teeth per inch of diameter, correct? So if that is so then as far as tamiya is concerned it can not be the same thing, as they do NOT use the inch scale but meteric. So that would explain their way of saying meteric 48p because they are speaking in one language and we are accustomed to 32p, 48p and 64p being all the same basic starting point which would be back to the 1 inch diameter and they use meteric as a way of measuring, which all other manufactures use the one we have been using for years.

So I hope someone with LOTS more knowledge than me will step-up and EXPLAIN it so we will know what the truth is.

I am not looking for "He said or she said or I was told" but someone that can point to the facts as a way for ALL to get a better understanding.

Thanks
Dudelive

Dudelive, i thought i was all alone on this! Good to know im not the only one. Robinson racing also makes 48P Metric pinions as well...Id just like to know how to identify them and tell the difference. And why is it that my LHS never asks me if I want metric or standard pinions?

So, tamiya and robinson racing are the only ones who use metric?
