hey guys, I have a question on gear ratio's
I wanna lower the temps on my brushless stampede, if I went with a smaller pinion and larger spur according to this sticky it would give me a smaller gear ratio, would that lower my temps on the motor?

yes, it will gear it lower and lower your temps. it will lower ALL of your temps including esc, motor, and batteries due to less amp draw.

Well this is true forr the most part. motors and esc's also heat up if you underdrive them, as in put too small of a pinion gear. this causes the motor to over spin, reducing the efficiency of the motor and generating more heat. Its almost like direct shorting it.

That information was really helpful.
I've just bought my very first RC and this waas the kind of help i was hoping to be able to find.
I got the HSP Brontosaurus which is an electric off road monster truck for £89.99 and i love it, not to happy about the battery life though.. 6-8 hours charging for about 20 mins running time.
Thank you for that information, it was really really helpful seeing as though im a beginner with all of this.
Thanks
I have attatched a picture of my car

RE: Just about everything you need to know about setups!
Bought my RC10B4 kit a few years ago and only needs battery/sterring servo/radio to complete besides painting the body (might order a special body for it if they still do have them). I remember putting in a Mamba Max 7700....yep, still all there. (pulled it out of the box now) Shameful its never been run yet! Got sidetracked for awhile but revisited this site and my eyes first fell onto this post which I cut/paste for my own personal use. Thanks a bunch because it will help now that I'm FINALLY going to complete my car. Hope nothings changed too much since I've been away as far as finishing it up. I can still get litho batteries?, etc (or have they come out with something better?). Yea.......its been awhile. Really love the RC hobby but life took my time away but this year I'm back into the hobby.

Possibly lipo batteries, heavy duty differentials and tranny, it really depends on how you will be running it...
