Default Traxxas rustler gear help

Hi I need some advice for a Traxxas Rustler vxl gearing please. Can anyone recommend a good pinion and spur size for mainly using on dirt and short grass. I have read lots on forums but still a little confused as mine has bigger wheels than normal I think . I have sent some pics. It has a castle creations sct 3800kv motor and a 2s lipo.
also It has a hybrid gearbox but didn't come with a cover as looks like won't fit because of the big spur. Does anyone know if original cover will fit the hybrid box.
Thank you for any advice

Looks like the gears have been changed to .8 Mod ( bigger teeth ) . 58/17 works out close to 83/25 (48P teeth ) which is stock I think , so not too much change in your ratio .
Standard covers will fit RPM hybrid trans but not with that big gear in the way .
Someone else might be able to tell you the diameter of stock tires .
If you go back to stock gears , check the motor shaft diameter , I think it may be 5mm which could be why the last owner changed gear pitch ( more gear options ) .

According to RPM, their gear cover will fit on stock and Hybrid gearbox, but only up to a 87T (48P) spur. Your 58T (32P) spur is larger than an 87T 48P spur, and therefor will not fit in the cover. That's maybe why it didn't come with cover?

Those are short course tires which are larger in diameter than normal stadium truck tires.

In the Rustler manual, you'll find a chart which has recommended gearing.

Looks like the prevoius owner changed the spur to 32P because of the torque of the motor. 32p spurs are used on 4wd rcs. 32p spurs and pinions have larger teeth to handle the extra torque. 48p spurs and pinions have smaller teeth and can get shredded from the extra torque. Robinson makes 48p 5mm bore pinions from 17t to 45t. I run my rustler with 2.2 proline gladiators, 3650 4300kv motor, 48p 86t spur, 20t pinion in short grass and dirt. The temps stay under 160F.

One of the best investments somebody in the rc hobby can make is a temp gun (they are not expensive). The temps can be read of the esc, motor, and battery. Once the temps are known you will know if you can gear up or have to gear down. Using your finger works but your finger is not very accurate.

Heres the temp gun I use (pocket thermometer).

Hey Felshar, In my opinion, if you run indoor carpet or on a paved driveway...maby ok !
But anywhere like offroad, yard or whatever will most likely get small gravel and other debris into the gears
and ruin them.
Also that harbor freight temp gun looks identical to the flashpoint and at half the price !

if the motor was 3660 or upper , the shaft will be 5mm, i bought 1 for my rustler too, cant close up the gear cover. cause the 32p pinion gear size was too big to fit the original gear cover, so i change it to 3650 or 540 motor which the shaft was 3.17mm to fit my stock 48p pinion gear.
i run it as 16/86 , 18/86 nice front head up accelerate & nice for off road. 25/86 increase top speed on road, but the motor quite heat up
