Default How to rebuild shocks...

ok this is the one thing that I haven't done yet with rc. I bought some new evader st aluminum shocks and after a minute of running them, one started to leak. I now have oil, and new o rings for it, but I dont know what I am doing. Can someone please tell me how I can rebuild these shocks.. thanks I cant find any instructions on the duratrax site.

Well evader shocks leak period. Anyway you know how the boddom unscrews? Well unscrew it, remove the rod end and take the pisoton out. The o-rings are in the plastic piece you unscrewed. Then when adding oil, you need to bleed them to remove the excess oil or they will stop working at a cerain point while compressing. To do this, screw the cap in about 1/2 way and slowly compress the shock. You will probably need to do this a few times before you get the right amount.

Ya its the compressing, and screwing the thing back on. The last time i tried, I got it screwed on but the piston poppd out half the way and it wouldn't compress all of the way. I'm gonna try it again now.

I think you overfilled them last time.

really? In the duratrax "manual" It says to fill the shocks to the top. When I removed the shocks though, they were only about half filled with oil.

If you cant compres the shock fully then something is binding or you overfilled it.

Well I think I got one shock done. Its really funny though. when it is almost tightend down all of the way (it looks like its tightend down all of the way) and I can push the rod donw all the way it can back out about a half of an inch (what duratrax reccomends) but if I tighten It down any more then the rod just backs itself out and wont go back in. So i just didnt screw it down ALL of the way, but it looks pretty tight. Im using 50 weight oil and I'm going to do another shock the same way. I guess I will tell you if they actually hold oil once i get my truck running again. Any other tips though? thanks

If they still leak after that use some of that plumbers white tape like stuff (cant remember what its called off the top of my head) and put some on the shock before you screw the top on.

Great idea with that plumbers tape! lol we just replaced our kitchen faucet yesterday and we used some of that stuff so I know we have some! I kinda hope this works the way it is though. I'm fixing the front 2 shocks with 50 wt oil. I hope that this doenst offset the rear evader shocks with the stock oil in there.

well, they are done. Im pretty much sick of shocks now. If these leak, I might just skip the plumbers tape and just buy some rc10gt shocks...

Edit: woops I found a part that I forgot to put back in the shock when I put it back togethe Ok give me 10 more minutes lol!

Its called teflon tape, I finally remembered. Im guessing these are for your pede, so are you sure rc10gt shocks fit? Ive never heard of them being used before.

Stock shocks. I used to have problems with them so I bought some new caps that are a lilttle different and since then they have been fine.

Ya it's teflon tape.

I run evader pro shocks with hard springs on my stampede and The rears don't seem to leak lately(probably not enough oil in there to leak(lol) but only one front shock looks like it may be leaking. They must have some oil in em because they aren't bouncy which is good. I found t-maxx shocks work good too and never leak.

Here's a pic of my current setup.
