RE: The official UNOFFICIAL thread of Tamiya Frog - LB strikes again!!
Hello everyone
I read the first 26 pages of this thread, and didn't realize how long it is. Gotta love the Tamiya Frog!!!!
I like all the cool paint designs here
The Tamiya Frog was my 1st hobby-grade rc car back in the mid 1980's, a I swear I spent a thousand dollars on it with upgrades and replacement parts.
By the time I sold it, it had the red blackfoot space frame, the Parma aluminum nerf bars, a thorpe dirt burner ball diff w/ the matching dog bones, Parma fiberglass reinf. front shock towers with RC10 gold shocks all around, full ball bearings, the CRPfront and rear bumpers, the hot trick stuff rear trailing arm retainers and rear titanium wing, technacraft aluminum alloy wheel adapters, wheels and tires, a BITD state-of-the-art Novak esc, and a bunch of 7 cell nicd batteries, a bunch of spare spur and pinion gears, and a Lemans 240SB motor.
I miss my old frog, and would only get the re-re only if those old skool aftermarket (all of them) were not so rare and super expensive as they are today. Otherwise, I'm not at all interested in it. I owned it from 1984 to 1991, so my fond memories of it are enough. I wish I kept my old pictures of it so I could post them here
Anyways - it's cool to see the fanbase here for both the old skool and re-re Frog. Keep up the good work!
PS - no, you can't talk me into buying one - been there, done that, and if I bought one, I'd be upset that I couldn't do the same thing all over again w/ the upgrades . . . .

That old skool LeMans 240SB was about as fast as my new TA02's BL setup
It's really hard for me to get back into 2WD, especially after tasting 4WD. I'd do 2WD again, if it's vintage and I wanted it BITD and never got it, but it'll turn into a shelf queen in the end after I restore it.
But it's all cool and makes me smile to see that people still enjoy the frog!

This is my original Frog restoration. It's just been cleaned new wheels/tires new body with my own paintwork and custom vynil decalsthat I had a local graphics shop make. The driver is now a pilot. The head is from my Sand Scorcher Re-Re and I reshaped the helmetlike an aircrew helmet addinga hand made visor, visor shield, and metal mic boom. Still has the original mechanical speed controller. Looking for some motor upgrade advice to get more speed and performance short of going brushless. Too concerned with burning up gears going the brushlessroute. Please, let me know what you think?

I should be getting my Frog probably around the time I get my TRF 201.
I have plenty of bashing servos I got on RCtech as a package deal for $10.
I plan also on getting a hotshot sometime down the road...since you cannot buy the boomerang no more.[:@]
Here's my servo collection I have saved for a frog and hotshot.

I just finished reading this forum (took several days mind you) and thought I would subscribe as it seems to still be going strong. I recently picked a Frog up off eBay and it is in sad, sad, shape (see pics). Picture one shows our hero splayed out like a laboratory project; Picture two shows his three little tubs of guts (hooray for Gerber baby food containers!); and finally picture three gives a better top-down view of the splaying.

interesting info about the gear ratios (many pages ago...)
if i got this right, the original blackfoot gear setup is as followed:
motor pinion: 10t
counter gear: 52/17t
diff gear: 48t
this will result into a final gear ratio of 14.68:1 , still tamiya claims 14:1 or is my calculator bad?

RE: The official UNOFFICIAL thread of Tamiya Frog - LB strikes again!!
Hey was wondering if some could help me. I have a project Frog I am working on at the moment and I would like to get these wheels and tyres for it (or similar). Can anyone point me in the right direction to where I can get them from please? I need some wider and more grippy tyres as my frog is running a 12T Brushed motor and Robinson Racing Telescopic Diff gear set, with the stock wheels and tyres it just sits there and spins them unless I slowly ease the power on.

My Feedback: (11)
Just picked up a used Frog, It might be a Re-re since the dog bones in rear are new style. Need to put a new body on it. Not sure if I want original Frog, Brat or the Parma Dune Buggy body on it. Any suggestions? It currently has original tires on it. Skinny up front and spikes in back. Was going to get Jun-fac F/R shock kit when they are available. Ot I might just keep it stock. Need a body and front spindle 1st.

HOLY THREAD REVIVAL BATMAN!!!
Hi, I'm 39 and have just bought my first RC kit..which was a Frog. I've spent an enormous amount of time on google learning about things - I'm on a learning curve and I can see it getting more expensive.
Are any of the Frog owners who were on this thread at the start still around and..how are the frogs doing?!
