Hitting 80 mph!?!?
My friend is planning building a car to do no less than 80mph. What would be the best car to start with and then what brushless motor and drivetrain up grades!?! Thanks for the info. Price isn't much of an issue but he doesn't want to spend any more than me must. Thanks again.
P.S. Planning on doing an on road car but if a stadium truck can be done what are the options there?

Get a 1/5 scale car from FG or H.A.R.M. and stuff a fancy brushless system that I'm sure Inverted can tell you about, plus as many LiPo packs as you can dare fit, even if it means taping some of the LiPos to the inside of the body.

80+ won't be cheap. If price isn't a problem then tell him to look at some of the hand build drag cars and build one himself, or modify a New Era one.

[link=http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3423]read this for brushless conversion[/link], the jato is freaking fast already brushless would make it wicked, you'd need to put some thick, like 50,000 weight diff oil in the rear end to keep it from spinning out so much, it would help a stock jato let alone a massively sooped up one.

RE: Hitting 80 mph!?!?
He has almost no budget limits. If it took a grand he would have no problem doing it. We were hoping and expecting to spend around 6-7 hundred. We would spool the rear of the jato. He doen't want a 1/5 scale either. Does anyone have a car chasis that would work well , he origanaly was talking about a car. If we were going to do a jato I think we would want to hit 90mph since it does close to 70 out of the box and we hate nitro!!! So we would need to woop the crap out of it.

I read 8 pages to find out that dumb jato does <50!?!? What is the point if the slow crappy stock nitro does 60+? What motor and controller would it take to get higher mph like we are looking for? We both have emaxxes that do 40+!! I have seen a few motors mentioned but no speed controllers. Thanks

50 or 60mph isn`t slow...and very few rcs are controllable over 60ish...and fewer drivers are up to par to handle such speeds... i am not bashing anyone or anything, its just my opinion if that is welcome...
now to the technical part, a quark 125b, a good 5s lipo [maxamps has some nice stuff], and a neu1515y, lehner 1940 5w, or a plettenberg bigmax pro with proper [HIGH=low gear ratio] gearing in a jato or [preferably if you can fit such motors in] an xray t2 [or the 2007 version] will probably do such speeds without much sweat...
also keep in mind that you will be well into the aerodynamics effective range, so a touring car with a low body will do better...

A Neu motor and a Phoenix-HV ESC, then a 6-10 cell LiPo and it will go that fast. High voltage is the key, you're not going to go that fast on 3 or 4 cells. Don't forget to belt and balance the tires and make sure the drivetrain can take it.

RE: Hitting 80 mph!?!?
I completely disagree with the Phoenix, it is a plane ESC and not suitable for any "running". I could care less what Nic Case runs, the truth of the matter is Castle gave him the ESC and he used it, if Schulze gave him an ESC he would haver used it. Just him using it doesn't make it proper.
The Big Maxximum would be crazy fast in a Jato. Hell, the BigMaxximum can pull over 40 on 4s in an E-maxx, jato would only need a few more cells.

Get a TC-4. Put the Novak 3.5R B/L motor in it. Run it wil Lipos and gear it a bit higher. There is your 80+ MPH. Also change out the body for a better areodynamic one.
I've seen Novak run the 3.5R to 105mph at last years top speed challenge.

RE: Hitting 80 mph!?!?
personally i dont see why anyone would want to make the jato electric...well to go fast with it anyway. it wouls be mush heavier that a normal st and it would be easier to just but an electric st. but if you are going fast you would need $wd to stay under controll...a little. i'd say a custom works domonator or an xray... any belt driven car, shaft would not be good as the would be MUCH tourq steer.

RE: Hitting 80 mph!?!?
Are you clueless? Have you driven a BL truck at 50mph? And I doubt that it does 60+, it was a 2.5 stock

I have a good amount of knowledge. I have an emaxx that pushes into the high 40mph range with a hv 4.5. The jato stock is rated at 70+ so that means it should and will do 55-65 out of the box. Now apparently you don't have a clue if you can't read a traxxas box.
