the tamiya TEU-101BK esc
gotta quick question. im a noob in this r/c touring car world. i got a tamiya tb-02 shaft driven car. im pretty comfortable driving it in courses and stuff. and now i want a faster motor and thinking of getting a team orion method r v2 motor. i just dont know how many turns can my TEU-101BK esc can handle. so just wondering if any or you got a clue.
and on the team orion site, when they list the turn types I DONT KNOW HOW TO READ THEM!
for example "21x2 SV2 Method R " does the 21x2 mean that it turns 42 turns?
please help me out
thanks guys

RE: the tamiya TEU-101BK esc
It's rated at 23 turns but many people have run motors much hotter (lower turns) than that without problem. My brother is running a 21 turn orion with his and hasn't had a problem.
Check out the link below and you'll see what I'm saying. Alot of guys are running 19t motors, and one guy is running a 12t. Its not rated at that hot of a motor, but it seems as though they can hold up to it.

As for the 21x2, that means it's a 21 turn motor with a double wind.

RE: the tamiya TEU-101BK esc
I posted this on the drifting forums, but never here.
ORIGINAL: C.A.R.
Okay, I work selling one of these nearly every hour, and for the past 3 years we have told people this unit can handle ANY 23T motor.
It turns out, we were wrong.
The TEU101 is capable of running motors for a long time, but it has particularly low tolerances to AMP pull. If you hook it up to a Modified 27T motor which pulls a lot of current (amps) then it can blow up.
The 'silver can' type 540 motors included with the kits pull very little current. The Tamiya Sport-Tuned motor is also of very old design, and pulls similarly low current. This is what the 101 can handle.
"But I've been running a 19T for ages with no trouble"
This can often be the case; because mass produced products will contain units with different tolerances. Some will be reliable at as low as 15T, but won't last as long. Some will go up in smoke at the sight of a modified motor (this is a very small percent, around 1 in every 50 will quiver at a 23T motor, this is down to the build quality and 'luck')
"So why have a range of motors at 23T?"
The 23T motor range (RZ, TZ, RR etc.) are all meant to be used in conjunction with the TEU-302 ESC. The 302 is capable of handling much more current and keeping its cool. It is however, still only rated at 23T.
So if you have the Tamiya TEU101BK ESC and were wondering what your options were, you can have either a Tamiya silver can, Sprort Tuned or GT Tuned motor.
If anyone disagrees with this information, back yourself up with some creditable information. Tamiya has been careful not to state that the ESC will handle a 23T, but it does say that it will a Sport Tuned. Also, any Tamiya pictures you see of the ESC, it will be wired up to any of ^those^ motors.
Chris.

Depending on the unit, yes, or no. Gearing also matters. Whether you wire in parallel or series is a big difference. Series will be easier on the ESC but they won't get their maximum current/voltage, etc.

If you want to run 2 sport tuned, wait for a TEU-302BK, the NEW twin-motor ESC. It'll save you money in the long run!

Would be good if Tamiya now combo up their dual motor MTs w/ their own new dual-motor high voltage ESC!! I can dream, can't I!! (Hey, Kyosho does it w/ the Twin Force Spirit!!)
I think Chris is talking about the talk of a dual motor ESC, but 7.2V only, not 14.4V...

Er oops, my mistake!
Scratch that, the TEU-302BK ESC is their high-Amp ESC, I meant the soon-to-be released TEU-103BK ESC. Doh!
It's easy to make mistakes with Tamiya; there's so many numbers! Most popular part: 3515006! I remmember what it is off-by-heart, but who can recall this part quickest!?
