Default RC10T4 Brushless Setup

I have a T4 with a Novak GTB Spread Spectrum Brushless ESC, and I just ordered the following:

Lipo 8000HV 2S2P 7.4V Pack: [link=http://www.maxamps.com/proddetail.php?prod=Lipo-8000-74-Pack]http://www.maxamps.com/proddetail.php?prod=Lipo-8000-74-Pack[/link]

Novak Velociti 5.5R Racing Brushless Motor: [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTI0001P?&I=LXKSW3]http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTI0001P?&I=LXKSW3[/link]

Is this setup going to be insane? What kind of run times should I expect for track bashing sessions? Will I have any problems with overheating with long run times using a 14t pinion (stock 87 spur)?

Thanks for any input.

I think I heard you will get at least 20 min with that setup. It should be a very nice setup. It definately wont be insane though. You are much better off going with a higer voltage and lower kv setup. Unfortunately, you can't go higher than 2S with novak.

I just wanted to make sure that it will be controllable on the track.

Just check your motor temp after a few minutes and see. I run a GTB 4.5 and 14t pinion is just about right. AE Roll pins don't fair well will BL so you need to make some mods. I know!! Anyway, GTB has a lot of hair so be careful @wot!!

The 5.5r might be a bit too much motor. I run a 6.5r in my MF2 and that seems like too much power already and just the right amount of torque.

That will make a great basher, but will have to be toned down for the track. You may be able to adjust with your transmitter. If not, you'll have to develop a very light finger. It's not the best setup for racing.

Amen!! I've learned alot of a light finger. Burnouts, wheelies and donuts are a thing of the past. I prefer my gtb4.5 with a 12t pinion to slow it down and keep it on the track. A good shock/spring setup and the right tires make a big diff for me. Racing offroad with ST is an art in itself!!

For sure. If you can drive a 2wd ST, you can drive just about anything. I practice most with my T4. It makes my 4wd's seem very easy.

With a 14t pinion it shouldn't be too bad. The low gearing will tone down the overall power a little but it will be punchy on that 8000 lipo. The radio adjustments can tone it if needed. I personally don't like to do that if I can help it because the setup run less efficiently if it's not allowed to open up. I run an 8.5 now on shorter tracks and have a 6.5 for large 1/8 scale tracks and it's as much as I can use. I'd gear the 5.5 14 to 16/87 depending on how much gear you need. If it's really hot outside it may run hot at 16/87 but should be fine under 80 F. Every setup is a little different though so just watch temp when if your gearing up.

Depending on how fast you are, you should get 20-30 minutes. Even a pro- could get 20 minutes with that setup. Someone like me on the other hand I could get 30 or more.

Thanks for all of the responses!

I got the 5.5 motor today! I don't have my lipos yet...but WOW! It is very fast (near 35 mph) with my DTX 4200 nimh. This was with a 16 pinion (lowest I had). I ran it for about 15 minutes before it got to dark to see it flying around my front yard. The temperature of both the novak GTB and motor were 120 degrees.

The "sweet spot" is between 150 and 175 degrees, right? What is a comfortable temperature for the speed control?

Thanks!

Email Charlie from Novak ([email protected]) and he'll tell you running temp tolerances. I run a 14/87 which results in a warm motor. You have thermal shutdown if it's too hot.

Definetly won't be insane? I think it definetly will be.

I own a 6.5r...and 2s lipo is freaking overkill.. a 5.5r would be even more deadly. You would have to seriously tone it down for the track, consider using 6 SUB C's for Handling.

Temperature Comfort zones:
GTB ESC = 160-180F
Velociti Motors = 160-180F

Yea, they are both pretty much the same.

P.S.
This information is on the manual.

I run a 4.5 with elite 4500 6 cell NIMH packs and a 20T pinion and 87T spur. It is easily managable but wheelies easily over small humps and if i dont let off the throttle it does barrel rolls and or cart wheels for the next 15 feet. Other wise I love my set up!

do you realize the sheer size of a maxamps 8k pack yet? you will need to strp the pack it because it will not work with the stock setup. i think you will be in the mid 40s on the street with that setup.

I looked into the battery size before buying. From Team Talk ([link=http://www.teamassociated.com/racerhub/b4_talk/b4_talk.htm]http://www.teamassociated.com/racerhub/b4_talk/b4_talk.htm[/link]): "The battery compartment is roughly 48 x 170mm".

The maxamps 8k pack is 44mm X 137mm X 26mm ([link=http://www.maxamps.com/proddetail.php?prod=Lipo-8000-74-Pack&cat=74]http://www.maxamps.com/proddetail.php?prod=Lipo-8000-74-Pack&cat=74[/link]). This is just about the same size as my Venom 3000 stick pack that fits very nicely with the foam insert. In fact, it is actually narrower.

Lipos still aren't shipped yet... But with my DTX 4200 it topped out at 37 mph in a parking lot. I am still using the 16T pinion gear, and getting peak temperatures up to 120 degrees even after 15 minutes of full throttle.

The maxamps 8k pack that I chose will fit in the battery tray, right?

Got my 8000HV battery today, and it is a perfect fit in my t4 (with the foam spacer in the front or back). Its height required me to back out the bolts that hold the clips and battery bar, but there are enough threads to keep the battery secure.
