What are the advantages of 7cell packs? What does the extra cell do?

A single cell provides 1.2 volts. So a 6 cell pack will provide 7.2 volts. A 7 cell pack will provide 8.4 volts. More voltage generally equates to more power.

more voltage and longer run time. You go from a 6 cell pack that is 7.2v to an 8.4v with a 7 cell. Some ESC's have problems with the 7th cell so make sure your will work with the increased voltage.

Less run time, actually.... higher voltage = higher current.. less run time...

You wont get longer run times and may in fact get lower run times with more cells. Take IB4200 cells for example. If you have 1 cell you have 4200mAh and 1.2 volts. If you wire 6 of them in series you will have 7.2 volts but still only 4200mAh. The mAh is what determines run time. The reason I say you may have lower run times with more cells is because with more voltage your motor will draw more current and drain the batteries faster.

they say the rule of thumb is for every extra cell added, add also 3-5 mph. and listen to everything else these other guys say

Thanks for all your help. I will be getting a dtx streal esc so it can handle 10 cells, but im not sure about my motor

Your motor will easily be able to handle 7 cells and may be able to handle 8-9 cells But I dont reccomend it. Keep an eye on temps, gear it right and your motor will thank you

yea, ill see what the stock gearing is when I get it. Ill do the touch test. How do ya do that again? 5 seconds=good, under 5=bad? I forgot

Right.. But everybody's pain tolerance is a bit different, someone's 2 seconds may be someone else's 9 seconds... Get a temp gun Hit up Harbor Frieght and get a cheap IR thing they have, i paid $20 a bit ago they were on sale.. works well i don't regret the purchase one second. (it also has a nifty laser pointer built in!)

I just turned two venom 3000 6 cell stick packs into 1-8 cell side by side hump pack. It is way faster in my Bandit. The venom's are built like s__t anyway. They have like tin foil bars glued or something not soldered. So I used deans battery bars, deans 13 guage wire, deans connectors and decided to just make an eight cell. I am going to make a 4 cell side by side with whats left. I allready made a Y so I can hook 2 packs togeather so when I really whant to juice it I'll zip-tie the other 4-cell pack in there. I ran 12 cells with the Y connector before and I swear it's faster with the new and improved 8 cell pack? Must be the upgraded bars, whire and the fact that it's side by side now. Oh I guess I should explain why I needed to rebuild it. These batterys sucked, they constantly false peak. I would have to reset my charger like 5 times almost every time I charged them. Someone said they had the same problem and rebuilt them and no more problems. So far so good, haven't had to reset the charger at all-3rd charge now. Here's pic. I repped them in tape because these cells were bare.

No, Go with tower they have a coupon out the were if you spend $50 you save $20. Coupons are the best part of tower and thats why I use it all the time. If you buy this stuff from your lhs you'll end up spending more.
