RC Electric Cars for Young Beginners
I have a Team Losi Sport XXX_T RTRII, with a few hops ups making it faster. I have two young children (7 and 5) who want to race and mess around with RC cars and I don't really know what would be a good starting point. Obviously the cars won't compete with mine but I want it to be faster than the junk you can buy in the toy stores. Any recommendations on a good beginner car that has some spead and is reasonably well made would be great. Thanks in advance.

go with a traxxas stampede xl5 it will have higher ground clearance and will take the beating on younger drivers plus you can run it in training mode 50% throttle and 50% reverse then when they get better you can switch it to 100% forward and reverse

Blackfoot or something, get a kit.
Or a WW2, they are fun to play around with...
If not a Vendetta, Mini T, or any other suitable tamiya, losi, or dtx.

If they're looking for something like Dad's got then the Rustler would be fine. However I always recommend the Tamiya Clod Buster for kids. It's something that they'll love the looks of, it can take a huge beating, and isn't that fast.

All my kids have S/T's
The oldest - 13 has a Rustler that started stock and he has modified a lot. He mostly uses his own money now for it.
The middle boy also has a Rustler. Quite modified, but he uses Dad's money and help.
The youngest - 4 yr old - he has a Sportwerks Raven - bought it used, real cheap, good condition. I would NOT recommend this as a starter truck as Dad is always repairing it. I need to get him a Rustler.
The rustler is just a tough little truck for kids and has plenty of hop-up options for them to learn on.

Rustler XL-5, Stampede XL-5, Dark Impact (kit, so, will take a bit), mini's are fun, but can sometimes be stoped by rocks, curbs.... get them an offroad, onroads are strictly onroad, which, can get a bit boring after a bit if I were one of them[>:]

Stampede xl-5/rustler xl-5. I prefer my stampede FYI to my dads rustler. Whatever you want, both are great trucks and built simular.

Where can you get the evader ext for $99?
I just got my 3 1/2 year ol a Bonzer (HBX) for Christmas. I know these are just about hobby grade, but I have heard good things about their durability. Plus many parts are interchangable with the Tamiya that it mimics. I don't think it will be too fast especially with the 1800 NICD battery it came with (actually a plus in this case to have a crappy battery). Most important, it has the monster truck look he is crazy about right now. It's green, too. He loves Kawasaki and Grave Digger, so green was a must. Best of all it was $85 shipped from eBay. Only thing missing is the charger which is fine because I have two chargers myself.

I think the evader is good for you as well, you have losi experience so you know the evader a bit (its the old XXT design), i think they bought the molds from losi so they could continue the truck

RE: RC Electric Cars for Young Beginners
I just bought my 7 year old niece a Rustler for Christmas. What really sold me on it was the fact that traxxas put the beginner mode on their speed control. But I wasn't happy for TRaxxas using their new connector on it....but that's my personal preference.
