brushless/lipo e maxx
i know there are many threads on this already but i never find what i want with search. what would be a good brushless/lipo setup for the e maxx. i dont need insane speed but i would like to be competitive with a nitro mt. it will be used mostly as a basher so runtime and durability are the main goal.

8xl/mm and 2 2c li-mn packs.

an 8xl is a great motor. Gear it around 18/72 to start and gear up or down to suit your needs.

RE: brushless/lipo e maxx
There are several options.
One is to go with the Novak HV-Maxx 6.5. It runs cool over a long run if geared correctly. It'll get you into the mid to high 30's. Simple and dependable.
The Mamba Max and a quality sensorless motor would get you a little better performance. I'd go with the Neu 1512 2.5D/F or the 1515 1Y/F.
For batteries, a pair of MaxAmps 6k 2s LiPo should get you close to 30 minutes.
If you go sensorless, there's a lot more to it. You want to direct solder and take some other precautions. Go to the forums a RC Monster for a ton of info on this subject.

how about this with a mamba max esc? [link]http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXNPJ9&P=7[/link]

The XL motors are a better deal, though yes they aren't the top of the line, they work great! I have the 7XL on 3S lipo w/ MM esc and it hauls.

IMO if you have the money to afford an esc that can take more cells such as the 9920 then get it. The MM ESC struggles to stay cool when running on 12cells IB4200's and powering a Feigao 8xl. I even have a cooling fan on it and it still gets pretty hot.

Well you can run 2 batteries, as in two 7.4V lipos, or two 7.2v Nimh. As I explained above I think, I use a receiver pack for the servos and receiver, and remove the red wire from the Mamba Max's input wires that goes into the receiver. By removing the red wire, you disable the ESC's BEC (BEC steps down the battery voltage for the rx/servo) so that it doesn't get overloaded/heated with the extra voltage, especially when using hi-torque servos. Just use a "Y" harness to plug 2 batteries in series to get the 14 volts.

RE: brushless/lipo e maxx
Wow, glad I found this post. I am going to run the 8xl with a Quark 125B. My current charger (superbrain 977) will do up to 3s lipo. So can I run two 3s lipos in series to get 6s lipo out of it.
Thanks,
Josh

RE: brushless/lipo e maxx
looking to upgrade my e-maxx thinking about putting a novak hv 4.5 in it . or the mamba max dont know which one is better just need to be able to keep up with my friends revo 3.3. any suggestions?

RE: brushless/lipo e maxx
you could go with either one, but I'm biased toward the mamba max. I like sensorless motors better.
The novak HV-maxx system will be easier to install since you don't need a "y" harness and receiver pack / BEC. But it also tends to thermal more. The HV-maxx is really sensitive to overgearing, so you'll need to start conservative... like 16/72.
The MM will be harder to install, and the esc will require a receiver pack or bec (as stated in slo-v flyer's post). The esc itself also gets pretty hot, so a fan will be required as well. Once everything is set-up though, it will be more reliable than the HV-maxx system, and you have many more motor choices. Just remember that you cannot use the mamba max motors. those are too small. you'll need one of the bigger motors listed in this thread... such as an feigao 8XL.

Take a look at TEKIN, they have designed a brushless setup just for the E-Maxx and there is a video on their website of it in action. WWW.TEAMTEKIN.COM

RE: brushless/lipo e maxx
The thing that is lacking in this conversation is the e-maxx drive train. I run a single speed w/ alum idler & U.E. super maxx diff's & metal drive shafts. THE STOCK DRIVE TRAIN CAN NOT TAKE IT!!! My advise (In hind sight) Is get a nitro (lst2/savage or nitro buggy/truggy) & make it brushless/lipo. My e-maxx is a little bad ass & pull the front tires to the sky from a hard 30 mph squeeze, but it took a small fortune not to eat it's self on every run. list........RPM-arms,shock towers, skid plates,$60-$120 U.E. super maxx diff's $250-300. Metal bulkheads $60-80.00, Metal drive axle's $100.00-150.00, single speed conversion $40.00, + etc.etc.etc. just my 2-cent.
