Ya thats would be pretty sweet. Not having to worry about the motor getting damaged on jumps would make me feel really confortable when driving and not hold back when jumping.

Ya I saw that thread of yours. It looks to be a pretty solid and a overall good truck for the conversion.

I converted a hotbodies lightning 2 pro buggy, I used a Feigao 8XL, Mamba Max ESC, geared 14/44, and originally 12xrc2400 NiCads but run 4s Flightpower 4350 now. I still get about 10 mins runtime but have twice the power now and less burned fingers, although my motor gets roasting hot now I don't have to touch it, I should probably gear down for more runtime and less heat as it has way more power than the tyres can cope with but its just too nice having silly amounts of excess power.

By the way Mattnin, that looks cool, and one of the few trucks that I would say that about.

i really want an electric 1/8 buggy, but i don't have nearly enough money. I have a good start on the motor and esc, but i have no idea on which car and battery/charger setup to get. Here's what i'm thinking:
esc: http://unitedhobbies.com/UNITEDHOBBI...idProduct=4316
and motor: http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...prod=fei-540XL

Theres no need for a plane esc in a buggy. You should look into the BK Warrior 9920 with a Feigao 8xl motor.

$125 is way too much to spend on an esc. Period. And that's the motor i plan on using. I don't know if you read the specs on the motor, but it does say that it has different throttle profiles, brakes, etc. It's pretty much an everything esc.

$125 for a brushless land ESC is an absolute steal! BTW you'll fry plane ESC's if you use the brake when installed into a car/truck.

Takedown is dead on right on this one. I own the esc you posted in the link. It has a really really really rough startup. The motor wont last more than 5 runs before its shakes itself apart with the starting and stopping . Its meant for 6 pole motors not 2 pole and for full throttle always applications. I tried using an airplane esc on my 1/8th buggy conversion without the brakes and it still fried. Made for some scary stops at 50mph. They are not meant for that type of load. I actually fried 2 different airplane esc's before buying a car esc.

My brushless projects are a converted tower terror with 10l motor
2 1/8th buggies with converted to brushless with 10l motors
Cen Mt2 with 8l motor and mamba esc

Hey JM if you have any questions shoot me an email. I did all the research and played around with all sorts of combinations before getting it right. It also cost me a lot of money figuring out what works and what doesnt.

+1 on takedown's reply. $125 for a good BL esc is a steal. Most good large scale bl esc's cost $275-$375... except for the MM which isn't supposed to be used in large scale conversions. But it works great, and is the best bang for your buck esc out right now for 4s. If you want to run more than 4s on your conversion, get ready to spend some cash.

Electric Conversions are not for people looking for a cheap r/c build. Since the niche is still somewhat new, you need to be prepared to spend some cash or do a lot of your own fabricating.
