Default clodbuster old and new and bullhead

just thought id start a thread dedicated to anything that uses the clodbuster chassis, or anything clodbuster related that isnt a crawler! i know people will hate me for saying thi but just because a car uses clodbuster axles doesnt make it a clodbuster!!

anyway my story is that as a kid i had a clodbuster, since growing up i noticed on ebay that the superclod buster had been released and had to have one! i was dissapointed that they changed the colour scheme so i thought id make mine look retro spec, i bought white wheels, original decals, red parts, chevy front grille, chevy rear panel, i also decided to upgrade it a bit so i bought a half inch lift kit, esp chassis brace, electronic speed controller and a full set of bearings, then i found 3 vintage flashing unit so bought them too!!

just after i built it i found a vintage kin still un-opened and thought it would be the ideal compliment to my new shelfqueen, then a few weeks later i found the bullhead!! im thinking im going to need a big shelf!! because i want to get another super clod and have all 3 built up next to each other!! 3 different cars using the clod chassis one shelf!! bring it on!!

whats your stories people? show me your clods!!!

I don't have a story or a Clod, but out of my hundreds of RC pictures I do have one picture of a Clod that isn't a crawler. Good enough to share?

I really want to do that right there to my Bullhead, and just use the bullhead gear boxes.
It's too bad running a dual brushless setup is impossible to the clod unless you get the crawler system...[]
Either the front or rear motor has to have reverse timing....forgot....[:@]

You can run brushless on a Clodbuster, you just need two ESCs. You would run both ESCs parallel from one battery and if a motor spins the wrong way you would switch any two wires on that motor.

it could be done, i have 2 novak ss5800 that i was thinking of putting in a clod just to see what happens, you need the 2 mootors and esc's then you need to receivers with the same chrystal in you could find a place for 2 batterys or you could make a 'y' connectorto link the 2 esc's to 1 battery. 1 esc would need t be programed to run backwards but thats all part of general setting up anyway, steering can be controlled using either reciever, could even have 2 servos on top of each other for steering.

i have done a similar set up using a tamiya m-04 chassis combined with a m-03 chassis making it 4 wheel drive and it worked.. was way too fast though

You could run both ESCs of the same receiver with a simple y harness, all you would have to do is pull one of the ESCs red wire.

If you dont run both ESCs of the same battery they will be fed different voltages and spin at different speeds, causing binding. Also if you used two batteries the rear battery would empty first.

Have not run my Clod buster in 10 yrs -- sure is dusty.

What kind of upgrades are still available?

could even have 2 servos on top of each other for steering.

How would you do that, it might not fit properly?
People usually put the servo's up front, but I like the way the clod does it in the bottom center of the chassis
Makes it easier having them up front though...

well you could get rid of the top plate that hoses the reciever and speed controller and make a bracket to mount a second servo on top of the first, one controlls the front axle the other the rear, if they steer in the same direction put the servo horn on the top servo the other way round.. plus you could still use the original servo savers mounted on the axles!!

hmmm got myself thinking now

So basically your saying you CAN have 2 cheap servo's do all work, instead of buying a single metal geared servo.
I myself like the metal geared servo's. They come in handy.

i wouldnt use cheap servo to steer any clod buster.. but with 2 metal ones you could probably clamp the servo savers right down and keep the axles the way tamiya wanted them, plus the servos would be inside the chasis so no risc of getting them knocked

i hate the way people still call them clod busters after fitting all different parts!! its a mix of parts that just happens to use clod axles! [:@]

They have this one too...but I think it's a crawler conversion...
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXLCA3&P=ML

I just dont see why they are so darn expensive.....[]

I can buy the whole kit over again for that price....heck the stock chassis is tough as it is...
Since they included the bottom braces....

Not easy to reverse the rotation on a sensored BL.. easy on sensorless... (reverse any 2 wires)

So if you want to run Novak 5800, you need to flip the axle...

I was gonna say....I figured that wouldnt work out...
Gota find a motor that's sensorless..[&o]
Shouldn't be too hard to find though....

i tried it with my ss5800.. all you need to do is when programing is when it asks you for maximum acceleration use reverse then when it asks for maximum reverse use forwards.. program the other one as normal and one will run backwards at the same speed the other runs forwards!!

it works on the ss5800!! cant see why it shouldnt work on other brushless systems

Maybe check w/ Novak... to make sure that's an okay way to reverse the rotation!

Am I the only one who does not have a Clod yet?! ha! I wouldn't mind one.. wish they put the TEU-103 in it already.. I will pick one up when they start shipping the ESC w/ the kit! Ha!

this started out as a clod not a super..... frame was built over 15 yr ago.

the extra wheelbase and travel give the clod much more of the true monster truck feel.

Kinda odd how the front servo is upside down, does it turn ok.
