The Sidewinder can handle Brushed motors in Forward/reverse up to 19T, but if it is only forward then it is only limited to any 540 sized motor. You need to have 1.17 firmware to use brushed motors.
For brushless it says 4600kv up to 3 cell lipo/12cell nimh or 5700 up to 2 cell lipo/8cell nimh.

According to the manual, Yes.

Could I safely run the VXL motor with the sidewinder esc on 12 cells (speedruns only) without any thermal issues or going into a cutoff mode?

Should the sidewinder run cooler with the mm4600 or the vxl?

I would guess the vxl since it's a lover kv thus lower power will be drawn from the ESC.

Then if it runs the 4600 on 12 cells, I imagine it should do fine with the vxl (3500Kv) on 12 cells, am I wrong

under200 I have a question for you...

How old was your AM Transmitter like what year did you purchase your RTR RC car/truck?

I am thinking about going brushless, and have the Exceed RC 1/10 RTR Truck which has a cheaper AM Transmitter and I'm worried that it may have issues like yours did. Did you make sure to braid the wires they said this would help with any flakey issues with the transmitter under their FAQ on their site...

Let me know as I am ready to buy this ASAP!!!!!

Anyone else feel free to chime in as well !

interesting topic I have a bandit with a velineon system and my sons rustler has a 5700 cc sidewinder and we currently run 8 and 9 cells and they are real quick...His birthday is coming up and im getting him the 4600 cc engine and found someone to make me an 11 cell that will fit.I wonder if I should switch engines with him instead or just get him the 4600 as planned either way I cant wait to see how fast that 11 cell will go (dont worry it will be in a large smooth parking lot with no curbs, been there done that large parts list)

I don't think you will see significantly more speed if that's what you're after. I think you're better off keeping the 5700 and buying a Mamba Max ESC. I bet you could easily sell off that Sidewinder ESC for like $30-40 or just hang on to it for some other project.

My buddy is still using the cheap AM Transmitter (Futaba design) that came with his E-Firestorm RTR and isn't having any issues with his Sidewinder system. He hasn't braided any of his wires or attempted to do anything to mitigate any potential EMF issues.

Sorry I didn't answer sooner. The kit was bought this year 08. Yep, tried braiding the wires, relocating the receiver and also removing the motor connectors and hardwiring the connections. Tried everything Castle told me to try. Like other said though, some folks have no problems.

I just got my sidewinder today as well. Dropped it straight in my Evader Bx and out the door I went. What a great set up. Stock radio and reciever and nooo problems at all so easy a blind monkey could set it up. As for performance it was great even if running venom 3600 6 cell packs. Can't wait to go 3s lipo..
