Default Project Outrunner E-savy

I was inspired to do something like this by a friend who has an outrunner warhead (I think you all know who that is ). He helped me out a lot with picking out the right motor. If I did this I would be using it as a direct drive setup. So Iwould not have to use the center tranny. Using outrunners can have many advantages. Such as loads of torque while still having amazing top end speed, efficiency, and less heat.

Here she is!
http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...dProduct=2099#

The motor has a power equivalency to a .30 to .40 glow engine, which is a lot! The motor is made for planes/heli's (as are most outrunners) but would be great in a truck if covered some how.

I have not seen this done to a e-savage yet and would love to do something new. So please let me know what you think.

I can't get the link to work and can't find 2099 on the site. Do the outrunners have double shafts?

I'd be right behind you with my e-sav because it is stock and way too slow. (if I didn't have so many projects)

It has one shaft and an adapter for the rear shaft. I edited the link.

Thanks for the quick response.

How does the adapter work, ? it looks like shaft is flush with case/end.

That is for a plane prop. It comes off, the extra shaft is threaded, I will give it to a friend of mine and he will use a lathe to make it smaller, 5mm. He will also make the extra shaft shorter. The adapter screws on to the back of the can with 4 screws.

Thanks for the support guver.

Cool Project! A direct drive on an e-sav is hard to imagine for me but I suppose it could be done.

I'm brain dead, huh. Is it going to use both "ends" of the motor? That's what I thought.

I was thinnking mount the motor where old tranny was to drive front and rear from two opposite ends of the motor. Keep weight low and centered.

Maybe you are going to still use a pinion and spur?

No I will be hooking shafts directly to the two ends to the motor, they will lead to the front and rear diff. I will be removing the whole center tranny. Should gain a lot of power and speed.[8D]

Thanks again for all of the support.

The center shafts will be hooked up to both of the center driveshafts so yes both ends of the motor will be used. This outrunner setup will also make your e-savy so much quieter because it eliminates the tranny all together. All you will hear is the diffs and the motor spinning. (Im guessing that this will give off less interferance so your stock radio "if using one" will work noticably better.

Most likely my mamba max. I heard it can handle these motors really nicely with the new software.

the mm will not run multipole motors well...
you need something realy smooth like td's vxl. and you are going direct drive? right?

I don't think that is very true. A lot of people on rc-monster are running outrunners with the mm without problems. And yes I will be using it as a direct drive setup.

Thank you for all of the coments and please keep them coming.

Does anybody know the best mamba max program settings for minimal cogging?

This whole direct drive thing really has me thinking.[>:]

er, I hear if you have the low prety low, it can help with coggin, ya got to remember, plane motors aren't designed for super low RPM driving, but this sounds real interesting, got potential arangment pics[8D]

Yeah outrunners are the future, RC cars tend to be about 3-4 years behind RC aircraft, but in a few years, hopefully we will see a lot more outrunner direct drive cars without the tranny. It's the same path as brushless, less maintainance, less to worry about, and ultimately more power. The only drawback is the mounting and losing the ability to gear it, basically the only way to re-gear it is to change the voltage.
