What to do with vintage Kyosho Javelin?
Hey all,
Since I recently got into the R/C scene with a heli and XTM Monster MT, my stepfather has become increasingly interested since he was previously interested in the hobby back in the late 80's.
Anyway, we recently dug out his Kyosho Javelin from a box in the basement, and to my amazement it's in really good shape aside from some accident damage that caused it to be set aside so long ago. Currently, it has a broken left front lower control arm and is missing the axle from that side as well. Otherwise, the rest of the car looks great aside from being a bit dirty. The wheels are the aluminum two-piece and have almost brand new tires on them, and the remainder of the body and chassis is fully functional.
My question is, should I take my time and rebuild this car? If so, should it be relegated to a shelf or used occasionally? I can see from completed auctions on eBay that parts for this particular car make it fairly valuable, although I think having the car itself would mean more to him than a few hundred dollars for bills.
Any thoughts? I'm hoping to find the suspension arm and axle at a somewhat reasonable price and maybe fix it up for him as a surprise. Are any parts from their newer models compatible with these classics? Help?
Thanks,
-Dom

Man, I always did love that car, and the kyoshos from back in the day.
According to the collectors around here, kyosho does not have the nostalgic resale that Tamiya does. While I think the car is awesome and I would love to have one, I would not think it would be worth more than a few hundred, and obviously it is not worth it to sell your dad's car for that amount.
Good luck finding parts.
Post up some before and after pics. Pics of those old cars bring me back to my youth, I am just being selfish

RE: What to do with vintage Kyosho Javelin?
Domg,
I too have an old Javelin from my youth that I have been thinking about getting down and seeing if I can get it running again. If you find a place to get parts please let me know, I cannot remember what was wrong with mine but there are some parts that I need to get it going again. Man this brings back memories, I am hoping to get my son into the sport as well. I also have my dad;s old RC10 and Hornet from back in the day.
