Ok, look I have this problem... for some time now, when I drive on track and hit tyres laying there as "protection" my front shocks break like matches :/ I don't know what is it about because earlier I didn't have this problem, even small hit and my shock goes down

Do you have any idea why is this happening? I thought of changing front susp. arms to graphite ones which are stiffer but I like to know your opinion why this started to be this way?

    Hi guys,

I don't have a HPIFirestorm Flux yet, but am planning to order one. I also need a charger and batteries (2s lipo).

What is the size of the battery compartment so I can make sure everything will fit when it arrives?

    Thanks.
Hello......not sure offhand of the dimsions of the battery tray...but it does hold a 7 cell side by side pack...so any 2s lipo should fit fine.try hpi's website for the true size...

Ok lets get this figured out....You run a flux right? And your mate runs the same flux setup? If so then yes the larger pinion will make you faster...but he might have more jump off of takeoff....As for what size of pinion to run its all trail and error....You should buy a temp gauge and a set of pinions like 17t to 24t and then go out and run on different surface's checking the temps of motor and esc untill you have it geared right to keep the temps no higher then 140 to 160 f.....

That being said i can tell you from my testing that you would be good with the 20t pinion onroad and mayby on a nice hardpacked dirt track....for real offroading and grass you need to gear down to a 18t or you will overheat.

Now for batteries you said you want NIMH so i would recommend getting a custom pack from cheapbatterypack.com you can get a 7 cell side by side 5000mah with 12 awg wire and deans connector for $50...This is what i run and i get 25 minutes out of it and its alot faster then a 6 cell....

let me know if you need anymore help...

So your shocks are breaking not your A-arms? Not sure if changing a-arms would help your shocks from breaking...I dont race much but maybe some of the race guys can help you out...

I have to agree right now I am running a 4500 mah 7 cell (cheap tenergy) but the run times and speeds are about way more than my 6 cell 3000 mah.  Now sure that is not apples to apples but my top speed is about 30 with the 6 and about 38-40 with the 7 cell and the run time is all mah but its about 5-10 mins longer but i run them lower than i should... not worried about breaking them because that means i get new things!!

Wow, this thread sure keeps rolling along!

Thought I'd mention I broke my first part on the storm yesterday.  My LR axle snapped in half after landing a jump the wrong way.  So i'm waiting on parts now and while i'm at it i'm gonna rebuild the diff and replace the worn axle cups to get rid of all the heeby jeebies.

BTW, i built a track up at the cottage over the weekend and i'm gonna post some pics asap.  Was very pleased how far an afternoon's work could go while wading through swarms of blackflies and mosquitos!

If you have the stock flux its a 5700kv motor which is really the highest kv you should go in the firestorm....That being said you could drop down to the 4600kv and then you would be able to run a3s battery or 8 or 9 cell nimh...All in all i would just stick with your setup and buy a 5 pack of different pinions(16 to 21)and a temp gauge and a good battery like like this one below. Then gear for what surface you will be running on for the day..like if your going on road to race the brother throw in the 21t pinion then if you want to go offroad toss in the 18t etc...Just remember to use good batterys and charge them correctly.....A good battery should push your truck to 45mph.....

Not sure what you guys did, but doing jumps with the firestorm flux will break the flux motor screw threats. the screw will no catch anymore (part number: Z541)

Is there any way to have the flux motor properly secured because the HPI design is pretty weak, two screws holding that heavy spinning motor will obsiouvly not hold if you are a jump addict like me

custom motor support ? third custom screw ? anything else you heard or tryied?

I think most st trucks only use two screws to hold the motor....that being said maybe you should work on the balance of the truck so it lands on the wheels instead of the motor.

touche redfisher, but I thought this truck was indestruckable ?

I maybe landed 4 times on the back and boom, screw threat busted, bravo !

Wanna make a point here for all you guys saying that this firestorm can take anything: you were wrong, the nitro version maybe (never owned it) but the flux of course not, parts will start breaking quickly if you like to play wild

I ll get a longer screw i think
