RE: Official E-FIRESTORM thread
Well the E-Firestorm can be had for about $170............and that is a helluva deal! I'm not sure what the flux goes for though. I just got the base E-Firestorm and upgraded it with my own brushless system. I've nothing against the CC Sidewinder system, but I've had great luck with LRP and that's all I run and I can't stand running anything bone stock lol. The E-Firestorm's chassis is good all around. A decent racer and is very durable for bashing. Also it features an all metal tranny........so you can throw whatever brushless motor in it you want.

LOL ask Kilimats how the aluminum upgrades are! hahahaha In all seriousness though, I would leave the truck stock. I haven't broken anything major yet on the truck. When you start mixing aluminum and plastic you'll have issues. The aluminum just puts much more stress on anything plastic it's attached to. Actually, the only thing I'd bother upgrading is the tires. Get some Pro-Line Blades up front and whatever works good for the rear (depending on the terrain).

Besides, Aluminum still bends pretty easily. I always preferred the tough nylon parts from RPM. They take a beating, are damned near impossible to snap, but they flex more than aluminum which absorbs energy, rather than transferring it to the weaker stock plastic parts.

RE: Official E-FIRESTORM thread
What kind of paste? You mean like Artic Silver 5 used for CPU heatsinks? I think that they have an epoxy version of that stuff which should work great.
Once my rear bumper is installed, I will remove the motor shroud and see about getting or making a skeletal type, like a cage, that will expose more of the can to air flow.
I changed the oil on my shocks today to 35W front and 30W rear, tried new springs(softer than stock), took out the 5700kV and put in a 4600kV to better cope with the heat of 3S Lipo, reversed the rear A-arms to lengthen the wheelbase half an inch to help control wheelies, and geared it to 13/87.
Seems to run about 40mph, temps on an 88 degree day were about 180 degrees after 15 minutes of wide open bashing on grass, so I think I am getting close on the gearing finally. Might try a 14T and see how that works, but it is fast enough that I don't see me needing any more on grass or a dirt track. On the track, it is hard to make use of 40mph as it is unless you have a really long straight...
All in all, I am really happy with this truck. Runs circles around my VXL Slash that I had, and seems at least as durable.

RE: Official E-FIRESTORM thread
Well, this motor hit 200 degrees as well after 20 minutes of bashing.
I am not convinced that 3S LiPo is simply too much power for this kind of application. I see some people claiming that they run 3S with the 4600 and 5700kV motors and only hit 150 degrees, or claims of "it barely gets warm"... I am just not buying it.
4 motors in two cars, all of them overheat with 3S packs, no matter how low I gear the trucks. The Slash had the Velineon motor hit 260 degrees. The Mamba Maxx 5700 literally melted in the Slash. Got a second one and I put it in the E-Firestorm and went from an 18T pinion down to a 12T, still overheats. Went and got a brand new 4600kV with a 13T pinion, overheats.
Unless people are doing slow speed stuff with the occasional high speed run, I just don't see how you can go through an entire LiPo pack, heavy on the throttle, and not have the motor break 200 degrees, which is the point that irreversible damage occurs.
I am considering dropping to 2S and using stock gearing and see what that does. My buddy uses 2S Lipo in his Stampede VXL, which has the same gearbox and ratio as my Slash, and his never overheats.
I just don't know what I am doing wrong, but I have spent more on brushless motors than I have spent on the last two RTR trucks combined! Help!
Should I take out the Castle system and go with a lower kV motor like the Velineon? It says it is rated for 3S, but again, I don't see how unless you never hammer the throttle or run it in the winter time. LOL

RE: Official E-FIRESTORM thread
Have you tried gearing up at all. I know it sounds weird but you can undergear a BL motor and it will make them run VERY hot...

RE: Official E-FIRESTORM thread
I'm running 3s in my storm with stock gearing and an Ezrun 60amp 8.5 turn 4000kv combo and it's doing just fine. Don't get me wrong I do keep a close eye on temps, but I have not approched 200 yet. And I also don't do constant speed runs, just the normal bashing, on and off grass dirt.

RE: Official E-FIRESTORM thread
Hmmm... Well, I tossed in a 15T pinion and will play with that, but if I cannot get temps under control, I may have to try another Velineon 3500kV motor and stock gearing. I will keep the Mamba Maxx ESC for it's programability, but the lower kV and higher torque of the Velineon motor might be the best combo for my application. We will see!

RE: Official E-FIRESTORM thread
Just thought I'd share a vid of my storm, running an Ezrun 60amp 8.5 turn 4000kv combo with a 3s 5000mah 20c Turnigy lipo. After this vid I tossed in my garmin gps and got a top speed of 49.8mph with stock gearing. The truck had been running for 10min before I even made the video and my temps were 155 for the motor,135 ESC and that's without a fan cause I burned it up, and the lipo was at a cool 98. Can't complain with a $100 brushless system...

RE: Official E-FIRESTORM thread
Yeah it's blast, but its not putting all the power to the ground. For some reason when I go WOT form a stand still or at about 10 to 15mph it seems as though the motor just spins freely untill I let off a bit on the throttle and then it moves. I thought at first it was the slipper so I cranked it down all the way but that didn't solve the problem. It seems like the motor can't handle the initial hard start, only happens with the 3s lipo 2s is just fine.

Yeah I also checked the pinion and it was nice and snug, hadn't moved at all, the motor shaft has a flat spot ground down on it and there were no signs of slipping.

RE: Official E-FIRESTORM thread
Well i think I may switch from a castle brushless set up to some thing else. its been hot here but i tested my efst with the 4600kv, checkpoint 2s lipo and still got a studdering problem 3 mins in. it did it at the track the last few races and the gear changes i made didn't seem to help, i tried a few different pinions 14t, 16t, 18t 19t, thats all i got. the temp still hits 200.
any suggestions? i also got the castle link but i'm not sure what to adjust. I already fried one castle 4600kv and esc, it caught fire lol.that was before i knew about the temps.
